i think at this point it is quite obvious that the masks aren't real people but rather parts of his subconsciousness manifesting as people (possibly versions of himself) with different masks.

what is interesting here is that the rooster knows important dates. meaning that if this is a part of the subconsciousness, these events already happened.

this takes it back to that everything happening before the hospital is a dreaming MC is slowly awakening from. in the beginning, he is in a safe place, everything is alright, while he is reliving the events that transpired up until the point where he got shot by the rutger. after every event he is comforted by another part of his subconsciousness justifying his actions. as he gets closer to waking up, more of the truth shines through to his visions. the guy behind the counter no longer is supportive, he has visions of his victims in the places he goes to.

in the dream, MC kills the biker while in reality the biker kills him. this is why we see it from the biker's point of view later.

this only solves part of the mystery, however. there is still the case of why MC goes around killing people, but the game actually explains this in its "true" ending.

I just beat Ys: The Oath of Felghana which is apparently a remake of Ys 3 from 1989 that I have never played. I’ve always wanted to get into the series after hearing its praises sung by numerous people, but I only just got around to it through this being an easy purchase on Steam.

Essentially it’s a hack and slash game where you unlock new abilities and items (Ex: bracelet of destroy-suspiciously-cracked-walls) that let you progress to new areas or access secrets in older ones. The main difference between this and other games of its ilk is being very twitchy and generally asking you learn attack patterns rather than taking hits and healing it up - this is particularly true for the bosses where you will need to figure out how to avoid all their damage output and have a near-perfect run before they die (though the game has several difficulties and I’m sure this is not the case for very easy).

I thought the game was fantastic and particularly enjoyed the

. I guess the story is pretty basic even for a game from 1989 but it’s charming and inoffensive. My only problem with the game is actually the RPG elements... In some games you pick up a new piece of gear and experience no real power increment, in terms of how fast things actually kill you or are killed, because it’s all balanced around twenty item slots, levels, talents, or whatever. In YS:TOF you pick up a new piece of gear and you are God and that tier of content is no longer a challenge (usually you become mortal again around the boss chamber).

While this is nice in a way because gear does something and you're probably just exploring at this point anyway, it seems at odds with the design elsewhere and I feel a couple of times even bosses are caught and neutered by this. It also means missing gear, which is hard but I actually did manage it, is massive - doing dungeon three with my starting armour was tricky.

But overall this was a lot of fun and I’ve already started Ys: Origin. Would play again. A++++++++
