If the zombies are more intelligent and responsive, and also don't see you as easily. Basically reverting the game back to early days of the mod where you could sneak around crouching through a city rather than having to crawl then I might still get it early. Cos those loot things sound very nice

I always played the game as Diablo anyways, loot, loot, and loot some more. It's all about the goodies for me I just don't want the zeds to get in the way too much, but just enough that I need to think about things a bit. Perhaps I'll watch some videos but I'm afraid Dean will just fuck me over again in the end and make it frustration-simulator rather than a fun looting experience.

That's the nice thing about the game though, it's what you make out of it.

So I was playing this for a few hours last night.

It's largely exactly the same as the mod in my opinion. There are some improvements that justify the purchase for me though.

    • The crashing is a lot better as I haven't crashed once yet after a good 4-5 hours of play.
    • Connection issues are mostly gone, didn't see any lag and didn't get any disconnects or have trouble connecting to servers as I often did in the mod.
    • More buildings can be entered than in the mod and there seems to be more loot to be found, with more variety.
    • More items in the game with more options how to use them such as tearing a shirt in to rags to be used as bandages.

At present there doesn't seem to be many zombies at all in the game, I only saw 4 but wasn't really exploring towns much. It's still impossible to find your friends, I couldn't find 3 of mine the entire time we were playing, I did find other players though.

I wouldn't recommend people to buy it if they already have the mod, but I don't regret buying it as I much prefer to have it on steam and not suffer the connection issues. I was expecting more really, but we'll see how this goes.

Apparently the zeds are spawning below the floor. You probably heard them but obviously they can't get to you at the moment. I heard zeds quite often but if you jog in a straight line you can outrun them.

Also, once you know the map you can meet up with friends really easily. Me and my friends generally get together within half an hour (depending on how far away we spawn from each other). (learn2mapread )

Looks like people are still going to disconnect if they think they're going to lose their stuff. So annoying.

But yeah, melee weapons are a bit hit and miss in this engine. Originally there was no support for melee weapons in the original engine.

Just bought it. Cause, fuck it, I want this to be good and if nothing else I'll simply pay for all the fun I had in the mod.

Also, those collisions are really annoying. you can't crouch / hold a weapon / hold a torch and go throught doorsteps / stairs... Looting a building with 5 floors and 50 doors is just like [Blocked Image: http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww173/prestonjjrtr/Smileys/5.gif]

I really hope they will find a turnaround to smooth out the max they can the characters moves and collisions... We are in 2014 now, character animations and collisions detection can be way better then this. Just look at GTA 4/5, or any game of nowadays. Characters are more than a collision cube.

Yeah the collisions on the player aren't great. But to be fair I've had a better experience with doors in the SA. You can strafe through them now and I generally only get stuck if I come at a door from a weird angle. But like you say, doors shouldn't be a problem.

This sounds amazingly hilarious though you know? I mean, "oh man the game got so much better, i can only get stuck in a door if come through it at a weird angle!"

Yeah honestely if this is just door collisions and interiors controls that sucks i would get over it.

One thing that was annoying me in arma multiplayer is the fact that when you go prone into the grass, you don't see shit, but the guy 200 meters away will see you lying on a flat green terrain because of the grass lods distance, did they fixed that ?

ARMA 2 have always made your player model sink a bit into the ground at long distances, but it's not an ideal solution

What's amazing though is that the guy actually talk them off by being polite, get away without pants alright, but rather than getting killed and loose everything, moved his good stuff from his vest to his backpack i'm sure and just leave them the vest with just a rotten banana in it

Alright tried it and it's actually pretty cool, but man you shouldn't be playing it if you are the pissed off type. I spent like 5 hours looting stuff without seeing anyone, i had the best gear possible, m4, shitloads of ammo and food. And when looting a generic village, without caution, i was crouched in a house, eyes on the floor conscientiously organizing my inventory when suddenly, i've got hit with something behind the head. end of the game. WAT

Hitchhiking simulator or frustration simulator ? Both ?

    http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/12/20/impressions-dayz/

"These are all minor issues. The problems in DayZ standalone I eventually lost patience with all revolve around the zombies. First is the melee combat. It’s not so much that the animations are poor, but that the collision detection when facing zombies is so random. One hit from a zombie can screw up a character you’ve invested hours in, so when they simply walk through an axe swing and whack you it’s enormously frustrating."

In the mod walking toward any door, rock, stair, ladder, or props was a way to die. I didn't experienced any death like that in the SA.
