It was good, very good in fact but better than Apocalypse Now?!! I'm one of those that considers AN to be overrated and I still wouldn't even say this touches it.

    I was disappointed that

there was only one villian and it was the same guy from Thor.. Avengers should be fighting a team of bad super heroes.. surely?

    .

    I'd give it 8/10

I was very happy with the villain as his performance was absolutely splendid in Thor and he deserved to be expanded upon. Also he of course had the backing of an entire army of assholes, not to mention Thanos being revealed right at the end who as I understand it is essentially a titan/ultra-powerful god. If they were to have had a whole assortment of enemies I think they'd have risked it feeling a little bit silly and contrived, whereas this felt like a team put together out of necessity because the foe was so strong (Otherwise why not just have Iron Man deal with it?).

Of course, thanks to all the other films and their upcoming sequels I think we'll probably find that when a new Avengers film happens it'll include reappearances of villains we've seen before. I'm still pretty gutted that Red Skull was so underused and given such an anticlimatic ending in Captain America, but he didn't actually die in that film — so I'm sure they could write in his return.

I think there's an odd skewing in these top film lists, I tend to think no film should be allowed onto any top 100 list until we can look back at it. There's excitement about the film still, but will we still think it's that good when we look back in five, ten years time? If we don't, it wont move back down IMDB's list.

The Avengers was a great film, action packed with cool effects and humour but it really wasn't top 100 quality.

I mean, better than Last Crusade at 103? Nope.

Better than Up at 109? Nope

Better than Return of the Jedi at 94? Nope.

How about The Thing at 161? Nope.

On an unrelated note whilst watching The Avengers I worked out why I find Scarlett Johansson so ugly. It's her lips, they don't ever move, not at all, not ever and that's just plain weird.

it was better than up. i don't understand the fascination people have with disney movies. it seems like as soon as something is animated by pixar people think it's good... almost like games by blizzard (see what i did there)

Movies usually drop a few places after a couple of years.

Yeah, it's best not to see the list as a conclusive 'these are the best films in the order they are good' kind of thing as that's never going to happen — especially when never films having much more bias due to lots more people being drawn to their IMDB pages and consequently rating them. It's a good page to reference when you're looking for some cool movies to watch and nothing more.

Up is splendid, though. I know everyone said it but it really did make me shed a tear, and any film that manages that sticks in my memory. Plus I thought the whole thing was really enjoyable while kind of deeply unsettling at the same time. Unusual but good film IMO.

This! Always happens... first few months, movies always have a high rating, then they drop a point or two, I see the avengers stabilizing around 7.5.

Does anyone even rate movies in imdb here? I have the habit of always going to imdb after watching a movie and rate it, and sometimes I even hop in the forum to see what people are saying about it. Also, you keep track of the movies you watched.

i don't, because i think i have a flawed perception of movies. i mean, pretty much every movie i've ever watched (saved for pixar's stuff) has been rated by me as "pretty good". i can't remember the last time i was thinking, "wow this movie sucks"...

You trolling? lmao... if not well, that's a good thing. I don't get people that can't see the good things in life, even the bad stuff has some good on it.

I know what Sentura means, although I think it's largely because I spend most of my time watching films generally regarded as good — I don't waste my time watching movies I suspect will be shit. I don't just base it on reviews though, for example Taken had pretty poor reviews yet I loved the fuck out of it, as did most people who recommended it to me.

Taken was amazing! But I don't know what you mean by poor reviews? It's 7.9/10.

And yes, like you I only watch stuff that's either been recommended to me, or it has a bigger score than 7 on imdb.

When it came out the score was considerably lower and it was given a 'rotten' on RT as most critics seemed to dislike it. Fortunately word of mouth has saved it.

why would i be? my forte is games, not films. maybe it's because i'm cinematically illiterate, but i can't seem to not enjoy a movie... or at least as long as its in a cinema.

Do you like MGS? Since kojima visited our offices, I'm playing MGS2 and 3 again, and oh my god I fucking love this games... The cinematic experience is unparalleled, especially MGS3.

i've only ever played the fourth one, i could never seem to get a hold of the earlier versions... even though the gameplay seems really appealing to me.

Yeah MGS is some sublime shit. Going to do a marathon myself soon, although not sure how to challenge myself as I've beaten them all on extreme.

MGS1 is unfortunately not part of the HD collection — crazy as its story pretty much sets up everything and is needed to fully understand the others — but if you have a GameCube or Wii lying around you should try and get MGS: Twin Snakes for it which is a remake of MGS1 they did roughly when MGS3 came out.

Its graphics are pretty much on par with MGS2/MGS3 and it's really faithful to the original, I've played both versions billions of times and there's not much that's different apart from the cutscenes being a bit more fancy (the script is identical) and the gameplay including MGS2's refinements. I honestly can't recommend Twin Snakes enough for those who missed out on MGS1 because unlike the original it holds up really well when played today, even if not HD (hopefully the Wii U will have a HD re-release). It'd have been a perfect addition to the HD pack but I think legal issues stopped it.

Not really an action figure kind of guy, but I was impressed by the craftsmanship of these:
