Well, I wasn't referring to quake specifically.

I'm just saying that going forward, games added on Steam will probably receive things like automatically converting the input device to a controller if the games are launched via big screen and so on. The back catalogue could probably receive some love too, like storing an extra game cfg.txt in the Steam Cloud which is loaded when launching the game in big picture mode to enable controllers. Or something like that.

interface feels great - i'm almost tempted to use steam only in this mode from now on.

Oh? They support PS3 pads too?

Gave it a quick try here at work, the interface is perfect! Really nice and sleek.

Yeah you can use a program called MotioninJoy to set it up to work with your PS3 controller. I lost my xbox-pad in a move and tried it out instead, works great, though I've only used it with the usb-cable attached. Tutorial on how to set it up

Not sure why you'd need a PC next to your TV though. Just draw cables and use a wireless controller, the xbox ones go through walls pretty well.

Works excellent in an apartment, perhaps not if you have a big house and your PC is on the other side of it... Then again, don't most people have their multimedia rooms pretty close to eachother?

It does work good, but I've had some bad driver conflict experiences, with BSODs

Seems like I overestimated the reach of the controller, it's only 10m

Haha Guess I could've worded that better.

You don't want your "work" PC next to the TV, you want an entertainment device ("that doesn't suck") next to your TV

It is ages i'm waiting for Valve to come out and say the've struck deals with content providers to distribute tv-shows, movies and music.

I did finally tried Steam Big Picture this last weekend and I too think it's pretty good, but not yet as perfect and intuitive as it needs.

OT: when I tried to launch CS:GO from there i got a neverending "launching game" message (since I thought it was authenticating the game I left it there the whole night - then I killed Steam and launched the game from classic view just fine).

Anyone else experiencing this kind of problem? (on OSX Lion)

The Steam box is definitely something I can get behind. There are PC games I'd love to play, but I had to gut my gaming HTPC to keep my desktop machine alive some time ago, and also I really struggled with using a keyboard and mouse comfortable on the PC. What'd be great is something I can literally pick up and pop on my desk when I want to play keyboard/mouse games like Battlefield multiplayer, and then stick back next to the TV for gamepad games.

I actually use my laptop in this way to a limited extent, but it's only powerful enough to run a SNES emulator. Still, I've been having a great time playing the Donkey Kong Country and Mario World games via a wireless PS3 controller (which it turns out can be connected seamlessly to a PC via Bluetooth with relatively little pain). You know what? I should try Grim Fandango — does it have any gamepad support though?

Incredibly small, I'm curious to know the graphic chip it sports.

It's all nice and green and light... but what it will be the real component turnover for this kind of hw? And you'll have to go through them for their patented components.

I don't like the chassis at all, but with this kind of modular setup i guess that it's very easy to build a custom one.

Theres too many of these being announced, which I think will scare away the consumer (they wont know which to buy) and they will just save their money for something they know ill be worth it (like the next xbox/ps3/wii).

Agreed. I'd happily see all of them nuked except the Steam one.

TBH, Steam will probably be the most successful on the basis that most gamers already have a Steam library filled to the brim with games.
