I still play this every so often. There aren't any dungeons until level 30 then there is a new one every 10 levels or something like that

I found levelling up to be a lot of fun. There are a lot of different zones you can go to for each level range and there are plenty of dynamic events going on in each. I basically just go to a zone, pick a direction and just head that way and see what I can find.

This weekend was a one-time event that in the end rewarded players with 20 slot bag, exotic and rare gear ... it even dropped precursors for legendary items. But that was for anyone who could ATTEND to the lagfest, with disconnects and login server problems. Anyone who didn't participate got fucked basically, players getting rewarded with items that take considerable effort to get otherwise and flooding the market with said items, making the prices plummet to the earth. The shitstorm is enormous.

Your post doesnt make much sense other than that they had an event which was laggy. You are either fucked by this event because you couldn't get the items OR the whole market balance is fucked because said items come at such a low price...

    WHICH ONE IS IT?

Reminds me of an event I took part in in some crappy free MMO about 8 years ago. Crazy they have these problems for a high profile game.

So yeah, hmmm... Can't really wrap my head around what this game offers yet. I really liked Runes of Magic (at least certain parts of it) for how they managed to involve the low level players. Each small area had a big boss/dungeon that all events led up to and you usually could collect armor sets from said dungeons. It was perfect to engage the noobsies. Right now I felt that was lacking and that I was just killing rats for god knows why...

Either way, there's no subscription so I might as well just buy it after I complete these single player games I have laying around.

GW2 is an ugly game. Choppy, sluggish and dated animations (Age of Conan still holds the crown for animations and player movement all these years later). A confusing and unintuitive quest system. Slow and unremarkable combat, with very little AoE so it turns into a single-target slug-fest. Convoluted quest rewards and no real sense of progression over the small scale areas - the very typical "collect 5 ape tumors", and no hint of the larger world-changing events that were so hyped.

The trailers and promotional screenshots made the game look much better than it actually is, and no amount of free-to-play can overcome that.

Yeah I heard about this. I didn't bother attending since I thought I could just visit the areas later and do the stuff. I thought the only thing I'd miss out on was stuff like intro movies introducing new bosses and enemies.

GW2guru has gone a bit crazy over the chest dropping legendary precursors crashing the price of some of these really expensive items. Had I known such hard to obtain items would have been made easily available I would have at least tried to play >_>

GW2 pretty much represents everything I dislike about modern MMO design. And I don’t mean something asinine like "being an MMO."Segregated PvP, homogenized classes, achievements, daily grinds, every attempt possible to avoid player communication and drama.

I’m not against removing the trinity, but surely it works better than just bum rushing everything with almost identical characters.

My main issue is lack of interaction being a design pillar. You keep playing these games because of your friends and enemies imo.

These were my 140 character thoughts on Guild Wars 2 shortly after release and I almost immediately stopped playing it. With hindsight I would say... I probably still agree with the above and would add that the optimum levelling style of running away from 99% of the world’s hostile creatures (all five varieties) is a bit weird.

However, recently my little gaming group has had nothing to play because certain games turned out to be rubbish or a bit polarising so I ended up installing this again. Being unemployed also helped.

Now maximum level I’m not really sure what to do. It seems I can get equivalent end-game gear from the three main avenues: kill approximately five million people in World vs. World for badges, run tens of times through the PvE instances where you beat up bosses with 64-bit integer health values and nobody really knows what the hell is going on, or chuck two months of pure grind into the mystic forge with my fingers crossed.

And that right there pretty much sums up why I don't play this kind of game.

yea but so long as getting to max level is fun what's the harm? I still try quite a few MMO's these days but I am bored of the formulas they use now, all feel like they rolled off the same production line. Planetside 2 is an exception and it's awesome, but I fear lacks a long term end game too.

Yeah I was like this at first. So what I'm doing at the moment is just going round to all the zones and clearing them whilst doing the off bit of WvW. I've seen some pretty cool places I missed whilst levelling on my travels.

Though I haven't played in a few weeks since I got bored of just doing that. I'll go back to it eventually, but the end-game doesn't have any long term appeal to me. I don't like to grind the same thing over and over.

I've just gone back to Left 4 Dead vs. mode. God I love that game!

To be fair there was absolutely no gear grind 1-79. You frequently find upgrades from kills, all quests end with a vendor who sells you decent gear for little resource, daily quests and zone completion give you tonnes of stuff, and there are periodic vendors who outright sell you full sets. Crafting isn’t really viable for this because it levels much slower than your character and doesn’t really seem worth it except the Legendary weapons... and you’ve got to be borderline insane for all that rigmarole. But these are just the intended ways to get equipment; there’s also the massively overstocked auction house where you can buy a full set of gear for less than it costs to teleport across the map every ten levels. This isn't top of the line gear but certainly enough to faceroll anything you might encounter.

I think my main dispirited sigh at the end-game content was how it’s all completely separated out, meaning you can’t mix and match the different routes together. If you want the PvP set you must play WvW until you have an unfathomable amount of badges. If you want a PvE set you must play through same instance over and over (optimally all three routes once a day). Mystic weapons seem fairly reasonable but things like the Emerald Pendant take over a thousand raw materials including 50 only available from daily achievements.

As far as I’m aware these all have equivalent stats and no unique properties. The PvP set from WvW is exotic level 82 gear with the “solider” prefix and therefore identical to the PvE set from Sorrow’s Embrace that is generated the same way. I guess you could hodgepodge a set together from these different avenues that way and remodel it so you don’t look like a clown but it all seems a bit messy either way.

As an aside, our group also decided to play Left 4 Dead 2 again last night. We were basically playing MOBA's before this but there’s a, err, skill gap that has created some occasional passive aggressiveness.

it's kind of a shame, i sort of like the wvw game, but it's still nowhere near the pvp in the game they drew inspiration from. it seems renewed in a worse way. which is sad, the original way of this sort of pvp was (and probably still is) the way to go. 3 varied factions with some similarities, differently tiered classes dependent on faction. it was beautiful~
