I'm hearing rumours on the grape vine that they have closed down today?

Too bad, I would've liked a proper STALKER sequel (didn't care too much about Clear Sky etc).

I guess they took an arrow in the knee.

Damnit, I was wondering if we'd hear about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 for Christmas and now this That concept art just makes me feel worse about it, a example of awesome stuff we'll never get to play

Sucks to hear, STALKER was great. You can't overlook that it took them like 9 years to release it though, so can't say they had a sustainable business...

Apparently it has been confirmed. Looks like that the head development team couldn't handle the console aspect of the game.

"Galenkin blames the inability to license a console version of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 to publishers for the team's demise. Without the ability to self-publish on the consoles, a PC-only release with a limited global appeal would not have sold enough to be sustainable." from Shacknews

Sad day, they were a good dev team doing what they loved and giving us something different. From my gamers perspective, I guess we will have to suffer with more call of duty crap

It's a fucking shame and a fucking waste of potential. STALKER 2 was, with Dishonored and Diablo 3, the only game I was looking forward to in 2012. GSC joins Bullfrog and Looking Glass in the limbo of developers that died too young despite having never made a single bad nor average game.

"not enough to be substantial" hasn't stalker sold 4 million copies. If that isn't substantial this industry is fucked.

    NO!!!!!

I hope we have another video game crash soon so we can start making good games again.

COD's success has gone to publishers heads.. "If they can do it, so can we.. in fact unless we do it's not worth it." I would hope that they will release the beta like they did with the original builds but I doubt it will happen

I don't want to be the devil's advocate but it's not unreasonable that the game actually did have some development issues and that understandable reasoning, but perhaps not just reasoning (as in correct), lead to this decision.

I don't know about you but I remember all STALKER-games being quite buggy and, unless I'm speaking out of my own ass here, console releases can't get away with that as easily as PC releases due to Sony/MS. Perhaps no publisher thought they could pull it off? And that merely relying on PC sales didn't cut it? Furthermore, the development of STALKER 1 wasn't really smooth and all subsequent games have been derivatives IMHO (easier to develop due to tech/asset-sharing). It's not a good pitch for any publisher with dollarbills in their eyes.

    Harsh business. Sad ending.

That concept art really got me pumped too

Fuckin bullshit. RIP GSC! What does this say for games nowadays? Only the shitty direct-to-console games actually make any decent amount of money :/

It's such a shame that the costs for making games nowadays are so high!
