You’ve entered Level, where GameTrailers deconstructs the best moments of the best games - and sometimes, the not-so-best games. Dungeons, bosses, maps and more, we’re pulling out our cosmic highlighter to stress the best.

Basically they pick a level, and analyse it. Good shit in there, if anything to remember good experiences you had in the past!

Ravenholm was a masterclass in level design. Anyone who says it is bad needs to get fired.

Yeah the UC2 train sequence stands out as one of the most impressive things I've ever seen in a game. Lots of games have tried to do train sequences and usually kept the section very short due to finding it difficult to make it look good, but I was blown away twice by Naughty Dog's effort: once when the sequence kicked off, and again when exiting the tunnel. Was incredible how you could see the remainder of the train in the distance going along the mountains.

I love how, in every uncharted game, when you step onto (or off) something that is a physics platform (like that train level) theres always a cut scene... Its like they're not using the same movement system like in the regular levels at all

I kinda ruined the train level illusion in U2 by hanging from the outside and noticing that the environment loops I mean it was obvious it did but you're not supposed to notice. The bit on the Tibetan cliffsides with the waterfall is just one big circle too :x

Btw I'm not HL2's biggest fan as many of you know but I loved Ravenholm, I wished it was longer!

HL2 Ravenholm and U2 Train are definitely two great levels... but to add to that:

    From original Half-Life:

    1) the dam level...wasn't there a helicopter? shit that was awesome

    2) the underground area on the train tracks in the tunnels fighting the soldiers (hmm...might be vague description...been years since i last played)

    3) the cliff level. wasn't much of an actual level but I found it cool and innovative at the time

But really the entire game was a giant lesson in level design. Not everything by itself was a work of art, but how it all fell together worked so well.

    a) would be sweet if the player could sit at the end of the train and it would continue on it's journey, and once it reached the end of the line it'd be game over, or maybe drake could just go and do some snowboarding roflmaolol

    b) anyone who dislikes hl2 dislikes videogames

the uncharted train level was indeed quite something, loved it except

where you have to dodge the signal lights!

My favourite SP map to date, if we're talking traditional scripted stuff, would be the mission where you have to defend the ship in Unreal 2! I loved way you could set up your own defences, that and it was obviously stunning for the day. It's actually not very easy to pull of a defend missions well, they nailed it.
