So I've been interested in a FacePunch thread involving shipping crate architecture and I thought that this would translate well into a source map.

I also made this map as a way that I might improve on my lighting techniques in Source and generally just get better at making maps look "good."

I still have yet to do any sort of real detail or any sort of exterior setting, I'm planning on adding that soon.

I still need to improve the lighting quite a bit along with much more. I'll be glad to receive any constructive criticism that you may have!

    Nice !

I like the design, very clean with nice colors for the lighting.

My only change will be for the texture of the floor : the wood is too old and noisy, I think something more clean will fit better.

But something still more sharpen/noisy than the walls, for making a good contrast.

Also, to avoid the feeling of emptiness in the corridors I will put some furnitures.

    I've since added furniture.

I showed this to my dad (an architect) and he was quite interested. He asked if I could do a 3d version if he designs one

I would agree about the floor too. Some nice new looking laminate would be nice.

    something like this

Oh ,y god I'm flattered! I didn't even think I would receive so much positive feedback for this!

I've been working steadily on exterior and interior improvements to this map today and yesterday night. I'll probable have another media release up by tomorrow.

Sorry if the update's been a bit late; I've been pretty swamped with schoolwork lately and I haven't had much free time.

Nice update. I like the rooftop garden, but wouldn't a door out onto it from where that bookcase is on that first interior make a little more sense? The ladder could stay, as it's a nice touch but If I was living in there I wouldn't want to have to go outside and right around my home to get to that garden space. Also the repetition in those window shapes, just rotating each separate window would help that out.

A very cool project, and it actually looks like somewhere comfortable to live.

Here's a quick and dirty update to show I installed a door on the second floor garden. I also added some window variation based on the crits from a few viewers.

your house is a collection of hallways.

...open up the inside with some more creative slicing and assembling of the containers?

I love the idea of this! There are lots of examples of shipping container houses about, do a search on flickr for some good extra references

I decided to add a cozy little loft with a work-space in it. Just for shits and giggles.

I added a pool to my map just for more shits and giggles.

Still have to add trim and some steps and ladders though.

I used a custom texture with a func_illusionary entity for the lighting effects.

Yes, as it is right now, your Sims would be dying in that pool. Defo add a ladder! (on a more serious note: I would not focus on the exterior yet but try to push what you can do in the containers more).

I apologize I haven't been able to release an update until now. I've been very busy what with Skyrim being released and all.
