Following on from that console crysis topic.

The next Homefront game will be made by Nottingham-based developer Crytek UK and will "benefit from the latest CryEngine technology", Crytek has told Eurogamer.Crytek UK, formerly known as Free Radical Design, created the multiplayer portion of Crysis 2. FRD was the developer of the TimeSplitters series, Second Sight, and Haze.

For the sake of clairty and to stop the rampaging neogaf hordes who patrol the internets, I do know what Timesplitters is and love it.

Oddly, I'm a bit interested. Homefront never looked that interesting... but I'm guessing that Crytek UK will just keep the theme and setting and invent a new game to surround it. Which is the smart thing to do

Yeah I can imagine if the game is written better and implemented in a better engine it might actually be good.

Plus they can recycle Korean assets from the first Crysis, which is a very reasonable thing to do considering the tough business climate...

Well, Crysis is property of EA, and Homefront is property of THQ, so same assets could never be exchanged between projects. Even if they did, I doubt we would do that for characters... tiny props like cans or whatever, maybe, but characters? Never.

Didn't this game get panned to hell and back, yet it still gets a sequel?

    Btw what's timesplitters?

Does seem like a strange choice of IP, it wasn't even a game that particularly penetrated the mainstream from what I saw. Ah well I guess it'll be a good sequel.

I remember Second Sight. It had an actually pretty good twist. Also the levels with snow ran really bad on my computer.

second sight was one of the most under-rated games on the PS2. utterly fantastic experience.

but free rad now is not what it once was, shit the free rad that worked on second sight weren't the guys who did time splitters.

gotta be honest though i would rather not have crytek make timesplitters after hearing the plans for it.

Erm... I've known this was coming for months...but whatever...

    1. Yes it's trying to be like Call of Duty

    2. Homefront had some serious issues. Serious issues. It was short, buggy, often ugly, had a terrible script, cringe worthy voice acting, and CoD style gameplay that wasn't as good as CoD. And more.

    But...

I played it. I hated it at first though I stuck with it. I kinda liked it, but I totally get why many people hated it. Even so, the idea has merit. No, it is not original by any stretch of the imagination, but if you played it all the way through it made you want a sequel that (a) actually fixed all the glaring issues and (b) let you

really freaking fight in San Francisco where the first game ended so abruptly.

It makes no sense. But given the sales weren't terrible for such polarizing product I kinda think THQ should go for the sequel if nothing more prove they can turn a new/struggling franchise around. After all, shooter fans like buying shooters and sure that's just what we need more of, but any time you bite off a chunk of the market that's a reasonable fraction of CoD size (or soon to be BF? ) it's not necessarily a bad decision for a publisher like THQ to go after a sequel.

Or shit, maybe COD MW3 will completely burn out the shooter market's desire for a modern COD style FPS set at least partially on US soil...thereby dooming HF2 before it even releases.
