This was mentioned a couple of pages ago, so I'm a little late to the train, but yeah I kinda feel underwhelmed by the latest inferno. It's a good job overall but there's a lot of things that kind of hamper it. Compositionally it's a lot weaker than train and nuke. But in valve's defense they had a larger buffer between and after those maps. Inferno had a smaller turn around time I think.

A lot of additional things that were omitted like phong also really surprise me, especially after including shader support for that on world surfaces. Inferno would REALLY do well with specular on a lot of those sculpted floor normal maps. I also really digged the hand paint spread they did for the main update page unveiling inferno, I would have liked to see inferno with a warmer atmosphere and color palette.

It looks a lot warmer than before for sure. I think they've gotten the dreaded 'comp/looks' balance right on this one. It's nice to look at but it's not visually busy.

I really like how they've integrated a lot of the cover into the architecture and design. Super smart.

Not too bothered that the sounds were changed for guns, it's fine in principle, but the new ones do feel hard to tell apart and lack a punch.

Aside from that I was browsing through the compatibility list on the workshop for old csgo operation maps and saw Agency again. Always felt like that map was more suited as an official map than some of the maps already on there. Agency for me is what Dust 2 is to most of the CS community.

I appreciate the detail I noticed in this that the annoying ass tow truck has been replaced by something much easier to climb. I doubt most people looking at that thing realized it could be crouch jumped up until they saw someone else do it.

Don't we all just try and climb everything when we play a map for the first time?

The legal fight with gambling is back with Valve and the gambling commission essentially calling a game of bluffs with eachother

GC - You're breaking gambling laws mate!

Valve - Oh yea!? Prove it!

    http://www.pcgamesn.com/counter-strike…d-skin-gambling

Seems at this point the GC's problem with Valve is their lack of action past the first wave of C&Ds, sure Valve went after a list of sites, but they left a lot of them off the list, I'm still seeing ads for skin gambling sites on youtube today.

One thing people tend to forget is valve looks at old maps as well. Everyone is compiling lists of the latest submissions

My favourite series on YouTube for Counter Strike is /u/3kliksphilip's "Making of de_sparity". I loved his explanations of each stage of development and why he made the map to the point where it is today. From there I looked at other videos of this type and found a few, but not many. That series motivated me to start mapping.

This is where my interests turned to a video type that is absurdly absent from YouTube. At least not consistently. Workshop map reviews/showcases. Sure, there is a few videos here and there but not a strong series(If there is I'd like to know).

I started a YouTube channel to showcase and give opinions about decently produced maps (not day creations). So in this way it is not reviews of maps that have a strong chance of being in the next operation, but to amateur creators who are passionate and have put some time into the map. It is a way to present a map that would normally be buried by high class mappers and give feedback. Personally I feel it is a great idea, benefiting mappers greatly.

Another video style also relatively absent is CS mapping videos, I started a live series (posting as I create the map, rather than post) of my map making journey.

(And yes I have seen the few workshop map review videos)

I would love your opinions and suggestions about this and hope you check the videos out.

CSGO skin gambling is the bane of my existence, I cannot look up any game information without this being a common sight

    [Blocked Image: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CvtrXrEXgAAc5D6.jpg]

In that one video alone, the guy vocally advertised two different skin sites, flashed up two skin sites on the video, alongside those two ads built into youtube. Don't know if there was more, I just dropped out of the video and pissed off.

    Edit:

Fucking hell! I just noticed the recommendations section as well.
