@Skybex After reading that my money would be on them making the guardian gamemode a standalone option after the operation has passed.

It would be a pretty different angle from what's currently available, but I think it feels very reminiscent of the CoD co-op challenges. While not probably to the liking of the rather vocal competitive community, I think it would be quite popular if no reason other than it's fresh (fingers crossed for leaderboards).

@Vaya the old prefix for VIP maps was as (assassination), such as "as_oilrig" and "as_747", and I don't see why valve would have any need/want to change it. I reckon an unofficial assassination map could be made. someone should do it, and it might jump start the return?

Arms Race was "Gun Game" before. Could also be thought that there would've not been any need or want to change that. :)

@SotaPoika Point taken, but "gun game" was a mod and they might not want to reuse the name, or they may have found the name to be inappropriate for the game in setting or ethos.

Assassination was exactly what was going down, it wasn't based on a mod called "kill the man" or something similarly immature. It was also already part of counter strike since beta 1.6 and as the game has exploded in popularity since it was dropped for source, there may be a great many more people who would enjoy playing that game mode now, possibly making it worthwhile.

    A man can dream!

I would love for Assassination to return, really had a lot of fun with it back in the 1.6 days.

It might be worth to evaluate the gamemode as a whole to make it more viable for casual (and comeptitive?) play. Who knows maybe more than one escape zone works better? What kind of weapon should the VIP get (maybe even map dependant)? Can he buy grenades? ...

Can't think of any other as_ map other than Oilrig. What other as_ maps existed way back?

I think the inherent problem with as_ is that it is an incredibly "volatile" game mode. You have one player who ultimately decides the outcome of the game and it can be over in an instant. In de_, the very important bomb can be recovered. In cs_, the hostages are invulnerable (nowadays). Escorting the bomb carrier and the hostage rescuer is actually a bit like as_ in some ways.

I think an interesting approach would be to make an inverse hostage map where CT's spawn with the hostage and have to move him to safety. In fact, I know someone already did this but I've actually never tried it. This would give a map roughly the same flavour as as_ but remove some of it's volatility.

oops, yeah 747 was a hostage map, not assassination! I always found tundra was very... linear?

That alternate hostage mode is a good idea. People on casual can be all kinds of special, and if they are going to troll then it's gg...

I've thought for a while the hostage maps could do with something a little more interesting than simply backtracking.

Now someone just needs to write a logic script that runs something along the lines of 'if you're carrying the hostage then you can only use pistols or knife'

I think it would make it too similar to the bomb/defuse mode, except there's no bomb timer, so no retakes. One other idea I had was to put one rescue zone near each hostages, except the rescue zone itself is available ~40 seconds after the hostage is captured (aka rescue vehicle ala L4D).

Or a variation of both, CT spawn with an hostage and need to get to one of the two rescue locations and wait for the rescue vehicle. This mode is actually easily doable in hammer. It would be even more similar to de_ maps, almost the same with a few variations (the vehicle leave after a while, rescuing the hostage once the vehicle has arrived is instant, terrorists can cover vehicles entrances from afar, you can call both vehicles at once, etc).

Who the fuck designed the CZ mission in the marksman set? Why force players to play Casual, the worst mode in CSGO? Why make players follow old CT meta? WHY?!

I actually quite enjoyed the CZ mission. It made me really think a lot harder about how I'd play, and I ended up not dying for five or six rounds because I wanted to keep my enemy M4, which barely ever happens to me.

It also gave me an idea: player designed challenges. Players could use sliders and drop-down menus to set mission parameters and then either assign the mission to a friend or just throw it out to the community. The game would work out a fair XP reward for the mission, using maths or magic or something.

You're welcome Valve, you can give me my $$$$$$$$$$$ now.

The idea is nice, like Hitman Absolution... but I guess they would be concerned of people circumventing the system like custom maps some people use for achievements(?).

I never played assassination but I see the point, was that frustrating at the time?

Oh yes, that's great and can definitely work.

Along the same lines I would like to see scenarios where CT are on the offense, it makes sense that a special unit would want to destroy a stash of weapons or eg a downed vehicle that can't fall in enemies hands.
Maybe is more for a warfare scenario, but still I think could be implemented.

Not if they control the system on their servers, I mean, theoretically you cannot cheat on official servers, so it could be their way to ensure that no one gain a lot of Xp without doing the actual mission they were supposed to, the way it was supposed to happen. Then again it's only theoretical. ..

I'm sure you've all seen it already, but the latest update went live last night and brings some changes the community have been clamouring for.

    http://blog.counter-strike.net/index.php/2015/06/12062/

The main point of this is that overwatch is now out of beta and accurate results can bag you some XP which will be rewarded. You will receive it after a verdict is reached when you finish a classic competitive matchmaking game.

Profile ranks also show on the scoreboard for friends and party members during a game and for everyone at game end.

EDIT: Biggest news is that you now have to be level 3 to match make. This includes EVERYONE, so if you haven't been playing much recently and aren't level 3, you will have lost matchmaking rights!

Essentially, a big ass speed bump for smurfs/hackers, who are going to have to put even more work in to get an account playable on official matchmaking servers.
