My God.. I was just having a discussion the other day about how little ever happens on the news concerning countries like Norway and then this happens.... it's crazy. So Glad your girlfriends are ok Peris and Skjalg (congratulations on the baby btw!).

From what i gathered the guy is just a madmen with political views all over the place and incoherent as fuck. A christian conservative on one side, a social liberal on the other side. He hates nazis, marxists and islam, is pro gay, pro israel etc.

I wouldnt really say white supremacists are common in norway, and we dont have a neo-nazi party. (it was disbanded some years back, and the neo-nazis started a religious cult instead which focuses on the norse mythology) This guy was a radical right wing dude who hated islam and wants norway for norwegians, and most of all he hates democracy.

His whole agenda was to make what he believed in known to the masses. Hes uploaded videos and 1500 page book as well as a diary to the internet the day he went out and committed these things. Also the bomb targeted the government, but it was also meant as a distraction so that he could kill as many young soon-to-be labour-party politicians as possible on that island.

It's completely messed up, but I like the statements of some of the survivors from the island massacre, that actions by cowards like this shouldn't dictate how our society will be in the future. Seemingly someone from my fathers side of the family got killed in the explosion, I haven't heard from all my friends in Oslo yet, but it's a relatively small city, so I'm sure this affects many people throughout Norway

no it's not common. and no, he wasn't nazi. he disliked nazism and called it a hate ideology.

Absolutely true, that we put too much emphasize on the murderer. On the other hand, we can't showcase the victims either. Society should remember them but not make them into cult-figures there every last bit of their facebook profiles is analyzed by tabloids.

I took the morning to go through some of his ~1500 page manifesto that he has been writing for the last 3 years in preparation for the attack. It's pretty chilling to read with what kind of surgical precision he managed to conceal his true personality in the years leading up to the attack and also the preparation and planning he put into this....

When you look at the events going on with The News Of The World and the phone-hacking incidents in my country... it makes you think that perhaps the world press have too much power...

Yeah, gotta say this is incredibly tragic. That picture on the first page of this thread showing the victims put down like hunted animals was so chilling and brought to life just how horrific 80–90 people being shot dead in a relatively small space is, especially when they're just normal teens there to have a good time (about the same age as my sister, too young to have done anything to anyone).

The worst part is that he specifically targeted youths. I mean, that is so cowardly and lacking any kind of meaning — although it does an excellent job of instilling terror, which I guess is the point. Apparently his killing spree lasted an hour and a half. I mean, fuck. Just imagining how it must have felt to be in those peoples' shoes during that period of time is awful: hearing the shots, seeing your friends being picked off one by one, knowing there's nowhere to run and that he's going to take his time hunting you down. I mean, what the fuck goes through your mind?

I think the only silver lining is that the fucker didn't kill himself, because now he can at least explain his reasons rather than being yet another madman who committed an atrocity and then killed himself before anyone could ask why. But with the country's law apparently only allowing him to be imprisoned for like 20 years, I seriously hope they have a way of working around that because the thought of him ever walking the Earth again is frightening.

The manifesto is a very interesting revelation, shedding some real light on just how simultaneously crazy yet ingenious he was. Nobody saw it coming, and he planned it in such a way nobody could respond before he'd pretty much done everything he wanted to do. Here's a gaming-related snippet:

The ultimate pre-meditated murder.
