Well, I'm not saying that the player should have zero guidance. For example, the player could speak to hunters who are familiar with the islands to gain information and advice. The player could also be taught by other characters and/or information in your handbook that certain animals stick to certain terrain/environments (which narrow's down the search), Of course, with this kind of system you'd want to reduce the total amount of items the player has to make in order to "max out", since each item will require more effort.

When it comes to vehicles I think they went a bit overboard. There's generally always an outpost or village nearby wherever you might be imho. Worst case scenario it's a 3 minute hike to the nearest vehicle.

Finally started playing it yesterday, and (after 3-4h of playing) i must say, this game is very good, smooth gameplay, story (as for now) pushing me furhter. Visuals are great ! (playing it on PC)

love the music and with my very low expectations after FC2 and trailers and shit i must say i'm very happy with this product

Yes but on the other hand you would get insanely frustrated by looking for a specific animal for 5 hours to get an ammo pouch, or after hiking for 25 minutes because there is no vehicles around.

This is the biggest time sink for awhile for me.

The only "gamey" thing about it is the "wallet full" thing.

Been playing this for a couple of hours now, I really like it so far! There are a bit of weirdness going on at some points, I think it's really hard to 'read' the AI, feels a bit random if they'll detect me or not, but overall this is awesome.

Just forked out for this and as much as I try to fall in love with it, it just keep kicking me in the balls. The menu system is confusing and crafting is awkward as fuck, and do I REALLY need to make a wallet in order to carry money?! I also don't like the whole "DANGER! YOU ARE LEAVING THE MISSION AREA! BS" This game is not BF3, it is an open world game...!

The final straw this evening was the save system; I just spent 30 mins exploring the map, saved and quit to make a call, then upon reloading, am put in some completely random location nowhere near where where I was when I saved! I mean, what the fuck is that about?! How can ubi get something like this so wrong??

You always respawn at the nearest disabled radio tower or cleared outpost.Regarding the crafting system and menus, totally agree. Ubisoft seems to be able to craft impressive games but the UIs are usually horrible.

But does this make sense to you? why not just let me reload in the same damn location that I left off? I just wanted to explore and do some crafting, search for loot etc. In my case, when I reloaded, it transported me right back to the other end of the map where i'd done the first tower tutorial an hour earlier! I mean... is this now acceptable in modern gaming?!

I struggled with Skyrim when it first came out, but the world in which it took place was so captivating that it kept drawing me back despite its flaws, and at least I could save my game regardless of being in a mission, capturing a stupid tower etc. This however so far has offered me nothing, I can't explore and be absorbed in the world due to all of these weird rules the game keeps imposing on me. It's like it doesn't want to be an open world game at all, with odd linear FPS rules thrown about all over the place.

    Oh and UPlay....damn.

The linear elements are 1% of the game.

I'm with Buddy on this. Complaining about that is simply exaggerating. So far I've only encountered "Your leaving the mission area" in the main story line. I'll admit this looks weird but I understand why so it doesn't kill the experience for me. My complaint regarding the story missions would be the huge contrast between how you play and how your are portrayed in the cut scenes (one man army versus wimp).

The saving complaint isn't really valid either. Yes, you do start at the nearest safe house but it does safe the progress you made (loot, animal hides, crafted items, etc). The game even explains this to you. So it's highly unlikely you run into this more then once. Besides, once you start taking over camps and unlock fast travel it really isn't a lot of effort to return to a safe location or fast travel to the point where you was.

Uplay on the other hand, fucking sucks. I wouldn't have bought the game if I knew this beforehand. I actually paid more for the Steam version which still forces me to use Uplay. I'll be sure to check this with future Ubisoft titles.

So in short, this is a open world game. There's a ton of stuff to do: Races, Courier missions, Poker, Sniper missions, Hunter missions, Wanted missions, hunting, crafting, finding collectibles (letters, statues, bodies), taking over camps, etc. The minor linear part of the storyline is but a small portion. You don't even have to play it and you can still do all the stuff I mentioned. How's that not a open world game?

Oh and ofcourse some of the interface is indeed quite bad but it doesn't drag the whole experience down more than a notch.

Just finished the bonus missions that come together in the "The Lost Expedisions Edition"... it's annoying to give the final greeting to such a good game with this kind of experience.

Luckily those don't last 40 minutes of play, as printed on the box, because it was just boring: one of the 3 missions is even just a looting raid

Is the DLC Bundle on Steam worth 10 euro? I put 40 hours into this game and I want more. How much play time are we talking about here?

    You mean this one?

    http://store.steampowered.com/app/226459/?snr=1_7_7_151_150_1

seems to me there's some multiplayer material, and since i don't play mp i wouldn't know how to value the whole package, in case you are asking me.

Singleplayer contents seems limited to a few additional hunts and the same missions i just played, so i wouldn't pay that (or any at all) amount for the singleplayer alone.

If you are in for some more action, i'd reset the status of the game and go after the pirates outposts all over again, I was thinking to do that myself.

Yeah sorry Blackdog, it was meant for you. Should have mentioned that. Thanks for answering though. I don't play the MP for this game nor do I intend to start. It's pure SP only. If it gives me another couple of hours of game play I'm willing to pay 10 euro for it. But If it's less than an hour, forget it. Thought about resetting the camps myself but I got too many games lying around to replay something like that, however much fun it was
