Ok...my ten year old niece loves playing Soccer (yes...i mean "Football") and she has an Xbox 360. It seems many of her school and soccer friends (both boys and girls) actually play FIFA or PES. I didn't think younger kids were into Soccer sims but shows you what I know. And her dad is really interested in it, too. He is pretty good at Madden so he's familiar with sport sim games in general though he's a bit of a Soccer newb.

They asked me if they should buy FIFA or PES. Suggestions?

I played (and still do from time to time) alot of FIFA and PES games, and I always thought PES was so much better than fifa, but somewhere at PES9-10 they totally fucked up more and more, and I havent been playing for a while, but I picked up both PES11 and FIFA 11 quite recently, and to be honest its a bit hardto decide on them.

PES11 looks much better and has a much more TV-ish feel to it, while FIFA is a bit more down to the basics, and is a bit easier and better to play.

PES is animation driven to such an extend that sometimes a pass or shot can be delayed up to a second at worst. Wich if you dont appreciate that kind of "realism" to it can be quite annoying. while fifa is a bit more easy to get started, easy to learn, and still acctually has a ok "Be a pro" -mode.

    its late im tired,but basically:

    fifa - arcade

    pes - simulation

That's the vibe I'm getting. FIFA 11 is supposed to have "2 button control" to essentially make it more arcade and newb friendly. That's optional right? And then FIFA 11 has a "Pro Passing" option as well, right? It sounds intended to be similar to PES 11's "Total Control" thing Konami talks about where the passing accuracy depends on how the skilled the player is with the controller. As I understand, PES 11's "Total Control" is always on right?

In other words, in PES 11 it's essentially always sim style whereas FIFA's default mode is more arcade, with an option to be even more arcade and yet another option to be more sim.

If that's the case, I'm thinking my niece and brother-in-law might have more fun with FIFA 11? I assume the demos for this on 360 have all control modes available? I'd test it out on my PS3 but no PSN...

i would say fifa is more inviting for the beginner, pointless to drop them into a game that gives them a shitload of control when they probably just want to have some fun.

Yeah they will probably have more fun with FIFA than with PES if they are beginners.

I personally have always been a PES fan until PES2008 when they screwed things up. I`ve been playing a master league game on PES 2009 and it feels pretty much as a straight PS2 port.

I think I´ll get PES 2011 soon for the master league alone, because that´s so much fun!

Since FIFA '10, FIFA has ruled over PES hands over fists. Can't go wrong with FIFA '11.
