Yeah, they should. PSN trophies actually only sync to the server when you view them - otherwise they're only stored on your local profile. So, next time you connect and perform the sync operation, you're gold.

There's rumours on the internets that it was actually an inside job, related to them axing a huge part of Sony Online's staff or something.

That would actually make Sony look a bit better in my opinion. Still shitty, but better.

Well, instead of being incompetent they just have poor HR

Nah, I guess it makes it even harder to trust em. I donno, it's a big turd no matter what.

From what I've heard the PSN servers were running Apache 2.2.3, a version from 2006. They haven't updated their infrastructure since the PS3 launched. They're not going to avoid that 'incompetent' label.

    And the latest...

PlayStation Network remains down, although a phased rollout of services should begin this week at some point. In the meantime, Sony's Kaz Hirai has just responded to the U.S. House of Representatives. Although Sony did not appear in person, the entire letter is viewable here. The PlayStation blog has outlined the response, and perhaps the most interesting tidbit is that "the intruders had planted a file on one of our Sony Online Entertainment servers named 'Anonymous' with the words 'We are Legion'."

The "We are Legion" phrase is part of the slogan hacking group Anonymous uses and it was featured on its major threat to Sony originally. The fact that this file was planted on Sony's server is not proof positive that Anonymous did it. In fact, Anonymous went out of its way to say that it had nothing to do with the attack, while calling Sony "incompetent."

At this point, we simply do not know what the truth is. If Anonymous is not lying, then someone is clearly trying to scapegoat them. On the other hand, it's possible that Anonymous is scared of the legal hammer to come down on them if they blatantly proclaim, "Yes we did it!"

For the record, in the letter Kaz Hirai sent, the answer to the question, "Have you identified the individual(s) responsible for the breach?" is simply "No."

The servers responded to query requests.

That doesn't sound like Anonymous' style. They're very brazen when admitting they committed an attack.

Anonymous is anyone who wants to claim themselves as Anonymous.

yeah, never got why "the media" hypes "them" up that much, as it is basically every kid on 4chan... "official spokesman of anonymous", "planning ahead of anonymous" etc bs...

To be honest with you gyus, im pretty much fcking disappointed. It has been almost 3 weeks, and PSN is still down. They better come with some good treats for PSN users and try to make them believe again in SONY and the playstation.

Is it weird that I am completely mystified by people responding to "Sony leaked your personal details and put your credit card information possibly at risk" by "Man I'm so angry that I can't play my video games! Give me a free game Sony!"? The thing I want is 100% transparency in their new infrastructure and security, for starters. I want to know that if in two days, two months, or two years, an update is released for any bit of software they're using to potentially protect my crap, they're going to put in the effort and update that fucking software. Design your custom shit so that it doesn't break due to other system updates! I bet at the Sony offices they're still using Windows 2000 and IE5. Their internal support software just can't possibly run in XP or IE7. Vista!? Win7!?!?! ACTUALLY SECURE SOFTWARE!?!?!?!?!?! ABSURD! OUT OF THE QUESTION! WE CAN'T AFFORD TO IMPLEMENT THAT!

But if PSN isn't up by the 15th then the BlazBlue arcade balance patch won't land and we'll be forced to play the older version at the next tournament. I will need time to get Taokaka's j.8D~A loop down too. Six of them off a 6C counter-hit for massive damage. Massive. Damage.

I'm certainly disappointed by the compromising of the details, but they've satisfied me that they're going to address it by completely overhauling their system and bringing in three different security auditors/contractors to completely tighten it up. After something this disastrous I expect that whatever issues and lapses existed will be sorted out — unfortunately it often takes a huge fuck-up like this before companies realise the error of their ways.

At this stage I just want the damned thing back online so I can use the online aspect of my console, it's dragging on big time. I just got Mortal Kombat and want to play online!

They'll bring it up to date as of May 2011 standards, maybe.
