It is a steamed potato.People found this by the way http://www.aperturescience.com/a/b/c/d/g/h/abcdgh/

Wonder what it counts down to

This just updated with text, and the gist of it seems to be that there will be a new puzzle tomorrow, and solving that might possibly do something to Portal 2, which for those of us who've preordered (like me! ) is already downloaded and ready to go, just as soon as it's decrypted.

I finally got off my ass and tried to get some potatoes. Following the wiki, I got five: Two from Super Meat Boy, Two from AAaaAAaA!, and one from Audiosurf (I can't get a Gold on The Device Has Been Modified to save my life). That covers a three of the whole FIVE potato pack games I actually have, the other two being Killing Floor and Defense Grid. $33 (Portal 2 preorders get -$5 off) for games that I'm not that hot on doesn't interest me. Are any of the others particularly, awesomely good? I tried The Ball's demo and didn't like it. It was just... pushing around a ball. Anything remotely complicated and puzzly got unwieldy due to the ball's size and momentum and the floatiness of your magnet gun, so it didn't really catch me. I got to a part with a bridge over lava and jumped off the bridge because there was a shore next to the lava, only to get stuck down there on a rock. Couldn't even suicide into the lava! So I just quit and uninstalled. I'm tempted by Kick It, since it's by the Dejobaan games, but it's a pre-beta thing so I'm not sure it's worth it.

The first time you get separated from The Ball, you learn to appreciate it much more moving forward. It's like a companion cube, except round and has no funny dialog about it voiced by a psychopathic AI.

I am okay. I am still a person. Who is okay. I am busy doing safe things that are supervised by a responsible safety associate.

(no spoilers, even if you're displeased with the ARG shenanigans.)

To pass the time. Valve really should just unlock the game already. All our work to unlock the game early has resulted in everyone ELSE getting it early, as retail outlets took the arg seriously and put the game out early. Everyone else but people on Steam has it, and we're looking at, at best, earning a midnight launch on the day it was supposed to come out anyway.

It was all a ploy to get you to buy indie games.

Would have been cool if we where actually going to get it more than a few hours in advance. Really like what they did with the ARG but an unlock today or Sunday would have been something to talk about.

I already owned half the pack! The only thing new I bought during the event was Rush, after people told me it was like Chu Chu Rocket.

this is one of the things i said my censored post.

frankly it's pretty shameful. although they have been doing it all along with TF2. that piece of shit poker game would have sold 3 copies if it hadn't been for the TF2 hats.

i can understand valve want to make some money and i bet this was a nice little boost to the indie developers, but it sure as fuck alienated a lot of customers. there's a lot of people who want to play portal 2 but who refused to pay40 bucks for some shitty games they would have to waste 4 days grinding away at.

and i am a complete valve fanboy.

well you could just play portal 2 this afternoon as scheduled and the only change valve made was "buy some indie games and we will release it soon". you boycott that - no loss, you participate - a lot of indies celebrate in joy

personally i only played the ball as i already bought it months ago but never came around finishing it and now was the perfect time to get back to it and play the portal DLC which i enjoyed a lot!

The most active members of the Arg thing flew to Valve HQ to play Portal 2 early.

All these Args have some sort of high-end prize for the most involved parts.

Even though I was positive at first, I decided to stay out of this and just wait for Portal 2 to be released as scheduled...

I'm not a fan of the approach they chose but I mean, it's harmless; you'll get the game when it's set to release in any case.

The Portal themed levels were alot of fun and pretty challenging. I had to use hints from a people at a couple places even!
