Not in the UK, but for a comparable price I had my own studio in Montpellier in 2006, in the center of the historic downtown district. 24 square meters for 425 euros.

Next year am paying £360 a month with nothing included (well water is) for some three bed house big enough for one and they forgot about the stairs so built them into the only storage cupboard. Things also grow if the heat is not kept on.

Damn, I just converted the price of my apartment here in Toronto to euros, still comes out more expensive than yours and it's just a one and half pretty much (kitchen + bedroom + toilet). 850$ CAD = ~606 Euros

Apartments are le expensive here, compared to Montreal, like double the price!

£550 for a 2 bed semi detached modern house, driveway big enough for 3 cars, huge garden and 30s drive the opposite way and I'm out in the countryside. I am 30mins tram ride away from work however, its worth it. I stayed in the company flat above work for a month, handy but hellish as you essentially never left the same building.

Could never live in a town/city again. The noise and excessive pricing is too much for me.
