I'm actually a bit swamped myself, now - want to push it back to start May 6th? Unless there's any big objections, I think the door challenge is next on the list and should be a fun one. I'll message vivi about getting his template ready and we can start rules discussion next weekend or so

i'd prefer if we could get started on the rules started on now or as soon as possible.

Just talked to vivi; he had a draft of rules from when he put the prefab together... He'll get those together and we'll use those as the base of our own rules discussion. Sound good?

well the only real change i wanted to the contest was from it to be "access the building through the door" to just "access the building". but yeah let's talk about it then.

Then I finally have an excuse to install Splinter Cell Chaos Theory again and finally start using the editor, like I wanted to years ago... Why not! Perfect challenge!

I vote for the access building scenario.

We'll roll the Door Challenge on Friday, so get ready

Here's a general discussion question for you guys - we've been doing about 4 weeks between challenges. Who would be up to doing some smaller weekend speedmap stuff around the 2 week mark? Start Friday, end Sunday, quick vote, and then on to the next major challenge 2-3 weeks later? Could roll some old-school challenges, like HL1 DM, CS, Quake 1... run with set themes or styles... "Wilderness weekend" where you make an all-nature scene... a quick PQL-style everyone-gets-a-level SP campaign... any number of short-term possibilities!

I know it runs the risk of overloading the people who are participating in each of the bigger challenges, but there's no shame in skipping and I think it might also be a good chance to snag some of our regulars who haven't been able to commit to the larger challenges, or just to keep fresh with a ludum dare/game jam-style palate cleanser. I've been hoping to keep the big challenges in the 15-20 entry range, but these could even be fun with just 4-5 people getting together and making stuff, and help make sure there's always something interesting on the horizon here.

    Yay/Nay? Maybe later?

Speed challenges on old engines sounds about right.

I propose a Portal 2 map compo. The unofficial hacky SDK is getting pretty decent and most of the entities have been documented:

    http://www.interlopers.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=454972

There would be two entry categories: single player and co-op maps.

We should make PhilipK or Minos or someone whip up a set of special MapCore chamber textures... I'm already getting bored of the existing visual style in these first gen custom maps. It's optional but highly encouraged that you use the MapCore textures.

Then, we combine all the maps into one big map pack of custom Portal 2 goodness. (Or ideally, make it a Portal 2 mod that you just unzip to \SourceMods\... can we do that? No one likes fiddling with consoles.)

I think that something like that would be cool. Though I would prefer to do it a bit after the current one is completed and after the official SDK has been released (as to avoid bugs and general fiddling around).

Also, I think one should limit the maps to one category.

I'd love some more portal 2 maps

One chamber each, then make a playable map pack out of it.

Love the Portal 2 map idea. Been planning on fully diving into Source just for that purpose.

Post-SDK, I say let's do it! We could line up a pretty beefy pack with the crew we've got here I like the idea of getting together a core-specific content pack - we could have some of our dudes work on that in the lead-up. Also, someone should paint hurg-themed murals to hide in secret areas.

Any other votes for or against the speedmap challenges? If that's something people are interested in, I wouldn't mind compiling a list of some possible themes to have available after the Door Challenge wraps up.

What do you guys say, Portal 2 MapCore pack after the Door Challenge?

Of course, we'll keep the usual break in between. Should give everyone some time to relax and get up to speed with the Portal tools. ...though I still want to try and run a weekend challenge in between

They released it early just to spite me! Clearly.

What constraint for the Portal Challenge? 1024^3 would work great, but we don't want to do it again? Or maybe someone could make a reflective cube model replacement that resembles the MapCore logo, and your map has to use that cube somehow... and stuff?
