that trailer is certainly awesome but should be judgedand considered completly by itself !
as a short movie i think it totaly succeeds
but this doesnt mean ANYTHING for the game it might still be the biggest heap of poo ever who knows?!
anybody have any idea who made the trailer ? was it blur studios ? some of the rendering/lighting is exceptional

if it's not done inhouse my money is on Digic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH_qOpYzlB4

hmm i seem to be in disagreement, i better conceal my opinion!
you're being even more wayward now then when you would've stated your opinion. also; you could use Izuno's question as an excuse to do it anyway.
regardless, i think this trailer is very immersive, creative, awesome and manages to put a new angle on a totally ancient concept. also: brainbread had some fine piano tunes in the startup screen and i always found piano music extremely fitting for the zombie genre...

This all leaves us with the fundamental question of what the actual game will be like. While the trailer may get a lot of praise (deservedly so) it really was just an attention grabber and buzz builder. If at some point we see actual gameplay that communicates how awesome it is to play and how it indeed translates that emotion, we'll probably (in retrospect) have even higher praise for the trailer.
So proof --> pudding --> etc.

Seriously if you hated it or whatever ain't nothin' wrong with that. I'd love to hear some other opinions as to what didn't work for people about it. Why? 'cause that trailer probably wasn't cheap and if you're spending a lot of money to make a trailer it's a good idea to know what kinds of things work and don't work. And that's how we learnded!

...except that's not the way this forum thinks, and it wouldn't exactly be the first time i would be called a troll for having an outspoken opinion on a universally acclaimed object of interest. but then again the world is full of morons, so ill bite... again.
to me the trailer did nothing because: the graphics first off do not feel very real, and it seemed more like a cartoon about zombies rather than an actual trailer. the narrative in the trailer segment was, at best, mediocre, and the way the narration plays out backwards does absolutely nothing for the story. there was also no moral in the narrative, which just made it come off empty and dull. i also thought that the trailer was too long for what it actually showed during that time. the entire trailer also made me question who the possible protagonist of the game will be, or whether it was just a scene to show the "zombification" of an island, and if it was the latter, why not show something more interesting than a family in a hotel fending off zombies. the best part was definitely the end, where the shaky camera added some life into the dullness, but even then, the end does not justify the rest.
i would not consider buying this game after watching this trailer.
EDIT: if you want to see something i thought was better, the link efreak posted has a segment that lasts some 3 seconds, but tells a story better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH_qOpYzlB4 (from 0:21 to 0:24).

And I am no expert on zombie films, but I feel like most are either comic (Zombieland) or serious/horror (um...do Resident Evil movies count?)The Dead Island trailer's tone feels tragic, which is kind of a fresh take.
i wish there were more tragic zombie games/movies. 28 days later is without doubt the best zombie/angry-infected-persons movie I've seen and is an excellent example of a zombie movie with a tragic tone. i don't think this is that kind of game, but i'm interested nonetheless.

Very awesome trailer + zombie games for the win
Very good drama in the trailer
-
continuity error in the trailer: the hotel-page gets slashed twice without any sign of the slash in the second one.

What could be more interesting? It was intended to have a poignant, personal tragedy to showcase the larger tragedy of everyone getting killed by zombies. A montage of a bunch of different people getting killed would be more impersonal as there would be no time to feel for these characters before we move on to the next, leaving the trailer feeling like "just another zombie thing". The point of the trailer was to set a mood and cultivate anticipation for the game based on that. Being generic would go against that and make people dismissive.

That's the same company that made the intro of the game I worked on (under siege) before joining Crytek.

First look at Dead Island by Destructoid:

Since when are we doing proper games?
-
I wrote up some thoughts on the trailer: http://blog.button-masher.net/2011/02/1 ... -of-games/ {shameless blog promotion, eh?
)As great as the trailer is, I really don't get the sense the game's tone is going to match. Which, I mean, the game sounds good, but I think I'd rather play the type of game that could come from the trailer than the real thing.
