yeah everybody here is ''supporting the poeples of egypt for a democratic spring in the middle east''. the biggest opposing side of the relativley pro-western husni is the brotherhood of islam. lol.

sill hoping for democracy for muslim countries though. allthough some muslim countries have elements of democracy, turkey, georgia and bangladesh are the ones that come closest to the democacy as we know it... iraq is still a big questionmark.

I think it´s better with a chance for democracy than no chance at all..

it's great democracy has been given a chance but don't forget chances for other, not-so-democratic parties has increased dramatically too. now the egyptian army has total control, so i guess we'll see what happens. i hope i get to be proven a pessimist, that's for sure.

well, as long as the army is controlling the whole of the state-system each election within is only a farce more or less. If they would have pushed for real democracy they would have gotten rid of the army's influence into juristicative, legislative and executive power. Now they replace one puppet with another one. Not saying this couldn't become a change for good but I keep my doubts. Also we have to keep in mind that before the protests religious minorities have been victims to all kind of persecutions. The protests united the diverse groups for a certain amount of time but the prove of permanent peace between the ethnies and cultures around the nile has yet to be provided. Egypt is basically on the edge of becoming either the great leader in the arab world for real peace between the abrahamitic religions and cultures or it will at best not change at all, more likely but become another fortification of extremists.

only for the presumed ''transition period''. in other words: the army gets to say who's the next big thing, which could be anyone atm.

Lets wait and see whats next for Egypt. I don't see any reason to celebrate this as long as its not clear where it leads. It's naive to think that revolution in a muslim country must lead to democracy. The political dynamics are very different over there. It all could be for the worse, maybe with an islamic theocracy or military junta next.

Nope. Nothing decent will come out of it. Eventually, some other regime that has been acknowledged by France and preferably the USA will replace the gap. Just wait and see.

Huh. Are you referring to that revolution where the son of a self-proclaimed king - who was supported by the U.S., since before he became king, the CIA disposed of the democratically elected president - was overthrown, just to replace the old regime with an islamic theocracy? I'm pretty sure you do. On that note, it's naive to think that a revolution ANYWHERE leads to democracy (e.g. Kuba, where Fidel got paranoid after the invasion by... oh forget that).

while i doubt they'll go backwards to a theocracy, i agree with waiting and seeing. one of the revolution leaders even said that there may be a period of some years without a government proper, while the country reforms.

I just invented technofascism. A supercomputer powered by PS3 chips gets put in charge of everything and he decides which people can stay alive based on their physical and mental abilities. First thing he will put all coders in gulag so that noone can change his programs. [Blocked Image: http://i.imgur.com/LJ9lq.gif]

Which brought mostly poverty (through rash and cheap privatization forced by the U.S. board of trade) and increased criminality? Also, ask the people over in Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Hungary and others if they're happy with their mad, quasi-autocratic leaders. And while you're there, ask whether the people in former Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Romania etc. are happy with their governments.

    stuff

The first French revolution ended in a blood bath where several political groups massacred each other and the needs of the people were deglected, followed by a monarchy, followed by a revolution, followed by a decent constitutional monarchy, followed by a revolution, followed by small compromises made by the nobility towards a parlamentarian/representative democracy (which, as a concept, has failed several times, eg. in the world wars, if you don't remember). I think you've also had enough German and Russian history to know how hard it is to direct so much political power in the right direction. Did I mention China?
