Use realtemp to accurately monitor your CPU temp:
Just go into your BIOS and get the temp there, software-based monitors often get it a bit wrong for reasons I can't fathom.This'll also mean you're seeing the actual temp it runs at idle (which should be in the 30s or 40s for a Q6600 which I also have) rather than once it's worked hard to initiate and run Windows.
Yes, the bios is probably more accurate, though I always find it good to have something such as realtemp for checking out load temps.
I've been monitoring the temperature with RealTemp all day and things seem to run fine now with the two extra fans. The CPU is usually running on 48ºC and peaking on 60ºC. That's fine I guess, considering it's summer here!

The difference between the reported temps is because the cpu's internal thermometer isn't telling the software its actual current temp. Instead it reports "Distance to TjMax", how much hotter it would need to get to hit the ceiling where the cpu will downclock itself to avoid thermal damage- and what that limit is is not public information, and differs between CPU models. The differences are because different software will assume different maxes to calculate by. The RealTemp guy made his calculations by socketing bare processors and measuring their surface temp directly (downclocking them as much as possible beforehand to avoid them burning up before he could measure them
), while getting their Distance figure from software.
