haha that's pretty accurate. although i remember some really great games where you make some stealth pushes behind the lines to take back points. can't do that in rush

and yes, karkand was good because it was small, infantry and infantry vehicles only, set in the middle east (which was pretty much still a novelty back then). so i think it has some special memories for people.

Karkand was an ok map, but not one of the best. Mashtur City and Road to Jalalabad were really great I think.

I once has a faulty GeForce 4 which did shit like that, except it affected all games, in your case it's more likely drivers or a card reaching its end of life.

My cart is new and a lot of people I know got this problem too. The problem change withe the latest beta driver (but still here) so it's probably drivers.

Killed a tank with my repair tool today. Also got a super ultra long distance shoot down with the SAM launcher you unlock first as engineer. It was seriously like 20 seconds before the rocket landed, and the helicopter it was chasing was way, way over the horizon and out of my line of sight. I got a "disabled vehicle" bonus, and then like five seconds later, acknowledgement of the destruction and kills.

I never particularly rated Karkand either, I've always preferred the more open maps. BF2's demo level Gulf of Oman is pretty much a classic example of the kind of map I like, also in the Karkand expansion I believe.

Oman! That's the name of that other map in Play 4 Free I was talking about. Really liked that map. I liked climbing up the big ass crane and shooting down jets with my rocket launcher. Also camping the gas station with a helicopter hovering just behind the hill. It was really smart design, how those hills bisect the map between the beach the US team has to come up, and the rest of the map. Nobody has a real advantage in direct confrontation, while the hills also give the US a big helping hand in making a push into the three points behind the hills, by letting them get closer on foot without being ganked. However, the RU soldiers could also hide in the hills, especially among the one wall that goes alongside the road, and take pot shots at incoming tanks and jeeps.

Really great map. If that's in the BF3 expansion I might have to get it...

Either the map needs more vechicles or it needs more cover, from the look of the bf3 screenshots it has more cover, which is great.

Back to Karkand was my favourite map of both BF2 and BF2142, I am delighted to see it returning to BF3. Similarly I was always a big fan of the Gulf of Oman, will be fun to relive my BF2 beta memories in BF3. Wake Island is a bit love hate for me, quite enjoy attacking, but defending was a real pain in the ass due to how exposed you always were, will be interesting to see if that's been fixed. My only real disappointment from that trailer is how Karkand is now mostly Blue, I don't really get the cold lighting in such a Middle Eastern setting. But hey-ho, as long as it plays well who really cares.

The amount of shit on the UI in multiplayer is starting to annoy me, especially the chat box, which is about twice as big as it needs to be (and I have no real need to ever see it anyway, there's never anything important said by text...).

"Lead Designer Niklas Fegraeus on the designThe design idea for the expansion pack was to let players revisit these classic maps as if time had passed by since they last played them in Battlefield 2. This will be apparent on all maps, but one prime example is on Gulf of Oman. Close to the beach, this new version of the all-time classic map sees a group of luxury villas erected by someone who wants to turn this piece of land into a paradise for vacationers. Now that war is once again coming to the region, those plans are likely to be ground quickly to a halt. Another example is Wake Island. Next to the airport, a conference building has been constructed. But the only conferences held there this Winter will likely be of the highly destructive kind. We met with Back to Karkand Lead Designer Niklas Fegraeus for a chat on his vision for these reimagined maps:

"I want returning players to get the sense that these are cool new maps, and then suddenly realize they know them by heart. The feeling should be new, but the actual map layout the same as before. For newcomers, these are simply four brilliant maps", said Niklas.

Besides getting an artistic makeover, the Back to Karkand team is also making sure the new maps take full advantage of Frostbite 2, including the ability to turn most of the maps into rubble. Do you think you are safe hiding inside the buildings of these classic maps? Think again!"

do you want to know what pain is? pain is watching gameplay videos and noticing all the shit that you and QA missed, and is now in the shipped game.
