Still have to pay for it if you don't pre-order. Or don't manage to pick up a LE after launch.
Battlefield 3

Yeah you have to pay for it if you don't preorder, but after a couple of months it will be released to everyone for free.
The way I see it is, I'm gonna enjoy the hell out of the vanilla BF3 maps, then I'll pick up my free DLC later on in the year, maybe when I'm getting a bit sick of the original levels.

Pre--ording is such a hard thing to do. I dont want awesome content for preordring because my visa is my card. I wont buy the game now. MW3 is so much l778r and I am supreme champion of halo. Let me tell you that Battfrield is before my time so my 1ee8 skillz are makin u prone. I am true Battle fan.

Those screens just make me sad that I wont get to see it like that on my pc.

Fun fact: I'm the guy with the RPG in those screens

In other news, I hope the blog post cools the internet a bit down.

Its only the weapons that are gunna become free. The maps are part of project $10 or whatever EA calls it.

Oh well that's a bit shit

QuoteBack to Karkand is a massive, themed expansion pack available a period of time after the base game, developed by a separate team here at DICE -- the same team that brought you Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam. If you played Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam, you have a pretty good idea about the scope and ambition of our expansion packs. This is so much more than just four remixed maps.
If you pre-order Battlefield 3, you will be able to play Back to Karkand at no extra charge as soon as it is released, but it is not day one DLC and it is not on the base game disc. We think it’s a sweet deal, and it’s available to everyone everywhere. If you do not pre-order Battlefield 3, you can still buy Back to Karkand separately and play it as soon as it is released, the very same date as anyone who pre-ordered. In other words, there is no segmentation of the community when we launch the base game
Vietnam wasn't free as well... and people were fine with that. If you pre-order now you get a chance to get that free once it's released...
-
It's a shame if it's going to be like Vietnam in that you can't have mixed rotations.
Still, I can't hate too much. The game looks very good and I'm thankful that they are making it at all.

This latest batch of screenshots is incredible. Great to see this game's bringing the wow-factor as well as awesome gameplay (assuming it sticks to its historical greatness).

Assuming, Thrik?! ASSUMING?!

I'm actually a bit nervous that they'll shift the gun/gameplay more towards MoH/CoD to make it more accesible.
But I'm hoping for the best and worst case scenario... there's a lot of other awesome games that are getting released this fall.
DICE-people of MapCore... do it right! <33333

For those people who can't play it on pc, heres the first ever PS3 footage

Is it even possible that FrostBite will go SDK ?
-
Highly unlikely, if not impossible.
The tech, as I understand it, is not very simple/user-friendly and they are primarily focused on using it within EA. They have said, somewhere, that they do not intend to license it as Epic/CryTek/Valve do with their engines.

Can't be very easy to make those destructible assets. I remember as Red Faction Guerrilla was coming out, there was an interview with someone at Volition where they said a few companies came to them looking to license Geo-Mod, and Volition said "Well, alright, this is what we have to go through to make all this breakable shit though..." and the deals fell through.
-
the problem is everybody thinks destruction is a single click solution that some magic code fixes for you and there's never any problems. if only that was the case ;p
but no, FB2 is a fantastic engine and i don't know how much i can say but really it is one of the better engines out there. probably the best. big words but i believe it's true.

Those are pretty big words, I'd figure you'd say Cryengine. Hell, I say Cryengine and I've never actually made anything in it. The effects it pulls off for how well it runs (except the Crysis 2 beta for my PC for some reason) are unmatched.
Although that's really helped along by the lack of competition, I think pretty poorly on UE3, Source, and IDtech5 (Carmack regretting his decisions with this engine before any game using it is even ever released, goddamn man)
