I think it's all down to personal preference really. Was playing til like 5am this morning with some mates (duhhhh, me tired) and started experimenting with some of the more random weapons. I love the final Medic unlock, it's awesome.
I think getting lots of kills in this game is done more easily by predicting where the enemies will be coming from and setting up camp ;D

TBH the weapons don't really get better as you go.I have unlocked all of the weapons since you know, I've played a shitload and these are the ones I use mainly (I do switch it up a little from time to time):
Assault: XM8 Prototype
Medic: Type 88 LMG
Engineer: 9A91
Sniper: SV98
As you can see, they are all relatively early unlocks. I believe that you should have all of the above at LVL12 if you have played all classes roughly equally.
I've got a gold star with the 88 LMG. I've only unlocked the third sniper rifle so far though, because I'm terrible with them. The only way I managed to get that far was playing the class the complete opposite of sniper: Thompson SMG, fast running, C4, up close and personal.
Throwing C4 on enemy tanks feels really satisfying. Too bad the vast majority of the maps don't really facilitate that. The heavily urban maps are the best in the game, IMO. -
The real men play recon like that. Instead of the SMG I take an auto shotty, because I'm a dirty bitch. Throw motion assist sensors ahead of me then flank the idiots. No one expects this for some reason and I rack up stupid k:d ratios of 10:1.

What dux said, but using the pump shotgun instead (though not exactly 10:1...).

-
My global K/D is like 0.65. It'd be better if I stuck with what I'm good at (medic) but I feel compelled to change classes every five minutes most of the time. It says a lot about the game that I can enjoy it so much despite sucking most of the time, though.
e: Also it'd probably be better if I had more time to play but lately I've been working hard on a project, averaging like 10h/day. My steam page says I'm down to less than an hour of gaming per night now.

Somehow I'm kinda tired of the standard generic FPS game that is released each year...
How about a small team tactical shooter for once? Like the golden days of Rainbow 6...

So this doesn't include battlefield 3 then, since its not the standard generic FPS game that is released each year.. rather its the epic kick you in the face biggest and best multiplayer experience released every 2 - 3 years. :santahurg:
But I do miss me a good tactical shooter like rainbow.

I can't play Rainbow Six anymore. I could totally figure that tactical map shit out as a kid, but now it's like a foreign language to me.
No idea how to do anything. When I want tactical, I play L4D2, because of the planning you have to do as infected. -

It is true that bigger isn't always better. I remember the MMOFPS PlanetSide which didn't have a cap I was aware of, and the most fun battles were the ones which featured 50–80 people. It felt epic, but it wasn't so ridiculously OTT that you were getting killed within milliseconds and there were too many threats in every direction to coordinate yourself or think straight. More players than that invariably led to a frustrating experience and made my favourite way of playing, stealth, impossible — so I usually decided to go off and find some smaller skirmish somewhere else on the continent.

I am actually playing planetside now, and the only viable way to play and have fun is to be in a squad/outfit on TS or which ever Vop you prefer. Anyhow, I agree bigger isnt better. I love the battles around 64 vs 64 ratio.

2 weeks for his, super weak
Looks fun though. -
Hehe not quite as sweet as the first one, but its still pretty cool. Though it doesn't really feel as tense as it could when they all more or less sit up and could be picked off by the sniper at the end, starts off well tho.
