new year new thread yadda yadda i'm revving it up with mafia 2. i dont think i really could appreciate gta's way of doing a story, but holy shit the way mafia does just clicks. much better than i anticipated, and well worth the 10€ (not sure if that offer is still going).
What are you playing now?

halfway through vampire bloodlines and loving it

Black Ops, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas on PC
NFS Hot Pursuit and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood on XBOX

Crysis: great game! although somewhat heavy on performance at moments and little character emersion. it's a blast to play nonetheless.
Mafia 2: awesome. but I'm at 4%, so not much to add yet.
last year was all about COD 4 MP. highest rank and all achievements. one of the games I had the most fun with, although some multiplayer issues are seriously fucked up (like the spawning system, clipping in some levels and overcrowded servers).

I was trying to play Fallout:NV but i find it unplayable. The controls are really the worst that i've ever encountered in a PC game. Something is utterly broken there and yes i have tried ini tweaks and everything. But also the gfx are very weird. It's like the fps are jumping all time and together with the spongy and laggy controls it makes me feel sick.
Also steam pissed me off once again with this purchase because it's forcing the German version on me even when i set my profile and everything to America.

I'm playing New Vegas atm as well, i find it a lot more fallout-y than Fo3 was. After few hours in i happened to forget how bad the visuals are at times, gameplay makes up for it well enough. I didnt expierienced any control issues except forced mouse acceleration which i disabled via ini.

Doom 1 and 2. Never played them through properly, but they are great games, even today. The level design is great, really makes you want to find all the secret areas!

You dislike tattoos and now this?! it is too much!

Finished Mass Effect 2 a few days ago, I got 54 hours out of it... yet it felt really short and empty. I think half the time I was doing side missions, finding my team and doing their missions for loyalty. Then the main mission itself was like 10 minutes long!
downloading settlers 7 at the moment, it looks really pretty! Everyone is totally slating it for it's ubidrm though. Kinda harsh, should criticise the game not it's protection. And from what I've see and read it IS a good game.

Playing PoP: Warrior Within currently. So hard and frustrating at times, but still great. Going to play Two Thrones after that.
-
Finished playing Game Dev Story on my phone last night. Most...addicting...phone game...ever...
Next up is either CODBLOPS or AC:BH.

Haha I totally forgot about the tattoo discussion!

Playing it as well, and I agree. While the graphics are rather crude in some areas, I don't think it is as bad as everyone says... There are some really quite pretty areas, it is more colorful and varied than Fo3. I'm also finding the difficulty curve a little more steady, in Fo3 it was somewhat hard until like level 6 or 7, then it was a cakewalk. Even deathclaw encounters towards the end were no issue - the first few you saw were a bit of a handful, but maxed out level and armor, not even a concern. Right now in NV I have maxed out level, some very good weaponry, and *almost* the best armor, and deathclaws still inspire fear. They are in huge packs and the AI seems much smarter. Take off a deathclaw's head and four others nearby will run over to the corpse and then start lookin for you... and they'll find you.
And those fucking wasps, those guys suck. I'm glad I'm not in hardcore mode because Rex makes a great poison sponge, he runs out and keeps them busy stinging him while Boone and I shoot their wings off. Then he spends the next 5 minutes repeatedly collapsing.

Playing Civ V. Seems ok, plays a lot like Rise of Nations.. wish the diplomacy was a bit better with the ai... they only except deals where they clearly benefit and are always so hypocritical. good game regardless tho.
Also playing NS2 beta! lots of fun if you get a good game without someone spamming turrets or hydras which causes the servers to lag. I miss the old corridors from ns1 however, seems to be alot of rooms now. Editor is sweet and pretty easy to pick up which is super nice. Cant wait to see more of your work Dux.

Haha yeah exactly @ difficulty curve. It seems quite more challanging than Fo3, combat and ai seems better as well. I'm actually playing on hardcore+medium and indeed when there is stuff like Deathclaws or whatever other critter coming its pretty terryfing
Most of them outrun you quite bad (you die). -
Stalker call of pripyat with SGM 1.7 and Atmosfear 2.1, on master difficulty with alpha squads on. Only thing I've set to make the game possibly easier is to turn off SGM anomalies because running into almost invisible instadeath gravity anomlies that hang out in the middle of nowhere without rhyme, reason, or fair warning sucks. I've left landmines on because they're a) moderately more visible, and b) You can buy a metal detector that marks them on your radar, letting you use them tactically.

I still find myself playing way too much of Angry Birds, even though I 3 stared everything I can and got almost all achievements...I think I'll force myself to uninstall it from my iPod soon enough...
As for the bigger screens, I'm finishing up Brotherhood these days. Sort of a biased opinion seen as I have a history with the previous game, but I find it equally better and not as good in different areas. The MP is obviously a plus although I'm not one to play much MP at all, so my experience is with the SP alone. I can only praise the team for having added so much in so little time, yet I think they overdid it. Level design wise, I think Rome is too big for either the engine to like rendering it or the player to retain the same entertainment exploring each location.
AC2 had this great multiple cities approach that continued to give more and more as the player went through the game, and Rome could never achieve that on its own. There is a clear distinction between each area of Rome, yet the artistic direction isn't distinctive enough to make you feel like you're somewhere else entirely while at the same time the city seems too vast, detailed and chaotic to be "controlled" by Ezio, the sense of scale is off somewhat.
Technically speaking, on PS3, the engine comes to a halt when in the rich district (not the Vatican) and having a few too many NPCs on top. Nothing like what I experienced with AC2 (albeit on 360). We're talking 15-20 FPS there
Story wise, the minute to minute delivery of a few key missions is better than any AC2 mission, and a lot of them combined; yet the overall hour to hour and sequence to sequence thread seems disjointed, as if no mission had any consequence whatsoever with what is coming next. I found myself playing AC2 for the story first, and I would only do the side missions after beating the game, but now I'm playing Brotherhood equally for the main missions and side missions as they seem equally important. There are a few missions that stand out of course, like the rescue in the Castle Sant' Angelo and playing a scene in the middle of the Coliseum, but those are very few and far between too many fillers.
Overall, it's equally a good game, and it's pure fan service. It's not as big a leap forward as AC2 was over AC1 by any means, but if you're looking for gameplay over story telling, you'll find even more to do than in AC2

Aquaria and Revenge of the Titans, which is a quite nicely done and well disguised tower defense game with and awesome art style. The only thing that bugs me is that the difficulty curve is hell-a steep. It's fun, still.

Bouts of Super Meat Boy and third prestige of Black Ops. Playing more of it than I'd imagined I would.
Recently just finished up Super Mario Galaxy 2 and DKCR just before that as well.
I don't even know what I'm waiting on next. Dead Space 2 I guess, can't bring myself to play the demo though cause whatever I'm gonna buy it anyway.

Man, and I thought the alpha squads were getting hard. I haven't been able to fight one for like three hours, and yet with me running away they're still upgrading anyway. Now there are two separate alpha squads moving in tandem to squeeze on me. These guys are universally "Master" level stalkers, with high end gear and armor and laser accurate cross-country grenade throwing abilities, and roll around the zone by the dozen. I think, much like the SGM anomaly fields, the alpha squads might just cross a line between "challenge" and "I Wanna Be The Guy".
