im only 10% in, but so far I am very pleased, minus some of the QTE's as has been said. I agree with Mazy that this appears to be a successful reboot. Will hold off further opinion until I'm more into the game.

Side note, but does this help ease the disappointment of A:CM? A least just little?

    How are the games related?

Yeah I think any relief this may have provided has been ruined a thousand times by SimCity.

i got to the part with the ascension rope tool. the onscreen prompts never told me what i had to press to make the fucking thing work to pull the crate (why you need to press a button is beyond me, i guess for consistency when using the tool to move up ropes). the button you need to press and hold is E btw, this isn't a spoiler but a warning/guide for anyone else who didn't get the prompt.

there was another show-stopping bug in this area that was related to the tool, and i thought i had come across a variant of that bug, so i used a glitch to drop through the floor. then i had an annoying text onscreen for the rest of the level because the game thought i was further back than i actually was. then i got to another part where i had to use the ascension tool and it took me 10 minutes of pressing every button until i figured it out.

i also noticed some parts where a detail mesh used to create damaged concrete edges couldn't be jumped from, which resulted in me running around in a circle repeatedly trying to figure out why i just ran off the edge instead of jumping when i pressed the button. eventually figuring it out and timing it just right.

to be honest it all sort of feels like they did it on purpose to make you relive the buggy, poorly-presented shitfest that was the original tomb raider series. either that or their QA was shit, or they ran out of time, or they had some terrible designers/artists that let some things slip through. it goes to emphasise how important polish is to a game. i think that's what made the uncharted series so brilliant: it's not because it did anything brand new (although it did some very great things), but because it all just worked so perfectly. i don't remember any parts in any of those games that left me as frustrated as i have been in tomb raider.

a huge shame because like it has been mentioned before, i think tomb raider does a few things better than uncharted. i love the story, i love the progression of lara, i love the combat, the dynamism of the world.. there's so much to love but it's all soured by a very small amount of nasty bugs. it makes it hard for me to recommend the game to anyone. hopefully crystal dynamics patch away these issues but because none of them are technically blockers i doubt it'll happen. oh well, maybe in 2 years they can try again.

It was that bad? I played the original I & II only (on the PC) and I don't have this kind of negative memories; if i recall correctly Lara jumped after taking two steps after pushing the button, that could have been annoying to most of people.

I'm much further in...presumably near the end, and I have to say this is becoming one of my favorite games from the past few years, possibly in my top 5 of console games from the this generation. Yeah I found some minor bugs, but nothing that really upset me and the QTE aren't bothering me anymore. It's the sum of all little things in this game that I really like, so I applaud it no sarcasm.

Just finished this! Great game. Not perfect though.

It was a good ride. Classic and simple story. And tbh that is what you want in this kind of game.

    4/5 puddzies.

Not exactly sure what you mean, but don't you just have to walk over to the boat that they fixed?

Tbh, I really liked the idea of the tombs but they were way too short and easy Everything was always there in your face, hardly any climbing around so you see all the different "pieces" of the puzzles. A bit of a shame.

Just finished it in one 7 hour long sitting. Pretty solid game tbh. Feels pretty polished in terms of mechanics and level design, didn't reach any point where I was thinking wtf am I meant to do here. Also had a nice variety of mechanics that it didn't become boring.

Ok so i just started to play this and is just me or the QTE are fucked up hard in this game ? i have really problems with it (atm where Lara was almost raped)

and QTE are FTW in this game and this is what i dont like

Only got to the point where I've killed my first meal but it seems great so far, very polished and the death sequences are fuckin' brutal — the first QTE where she gets crushed by rocks is like 'omg'. It does actually make me want to die less though because it's kinda harsh, more games should make death sequences more meaningful rather than using the same generic falling over and enemies rape your corpse ad infinitum.

I was expecting more Uncharted-esque shooting action though. Is that coming up or is this game not focused on that?

havn't played for a week, so i can't tell you that, but as far as i played there is shitloud of shooting, and when i first saw this game and now i still think this game shouldn't be named TOMB RAIDER, and QTE are the wors't i've ever played tbh, they are destroying the game

i will tell more after i finish it, hoply this weekend
