After years of waiting, it's finally here! I'm really not much into racing games, but there's something about GT5 that's really classy and it really wanna makes me play it, it's probably the visuals!

Hmm. I was kind of excited about this for nothing more than the graphics porn, but after watching this video my excitement has plummeted:

    http://www.gametrailers.com/video/musta ... smo/707766

It looks amazing in the trailers, but the in-game stuff doesn't look any better than games we've all played before IMO — I'd go so far as to say the rain affects are downright lame, the cars seem to be lacking good shadowing, and the in-car model and animation is as jerky and stiff as it always seems to be in racing games.

To be honest even the original DiRT looked a lot better albeit more stylised, and I personally find the balance of realism/arcade in those games to be pretty much perfect. The extreme focus on physical realism in Gran Turismo isn't really something I find appealing in and of itself, though I'm sure the car equivalent of flight simulator players will love it.

If I hadn't already played GT5: Prologue to death years ago I'd probably be more intrigued, but this literally looks no better. Think DiRT 3 has just shot to the top of my racing anticipation list (which has a sweet trailer of its own).

Is this going to have tuning? because prologue doesn't and if this doesn't i doubt ill be buying it. It was by far one of the most enjoyable aspects of GT1 & 3, buying some rubbish car but adapting it so you could save money to get a far better car later rather than just slowly getting slightly better cars.

I've spent around €550 on games in November alone and I have no time to play any of it right now D: Think I'm gonna sit this one out, for now anyways.

Besides, I'm not terribly impressed with what I've seen so far and when it comes to the actual mechanics then I prefer Forza these days.

Also, this rain is pretty pathetic.

But I guess that is being a bit harsh, considering how long its been in development. It's just the visuals that made GT the powerhouse it used to be, so hey

i think the rain in GT5 is realistic. in F12010 it's raining on the camera, and you don't get reflections on the ground unless there's loads of standing water or it's dark, which GT5 does.

i'm disappointed in the track list (i'd swap any of the tracks in GT5 for midfield and spa) and that so many iconic cars are missing (e30 m3 especially), but i'd still have spent £150 even if it was GT4 with new physics and graphics because that game was basically perfect.

I see reflections on concrete/tarmac all the time even when it's only been lightly raining. They are particularly shiny materials when wet, albeit only in darker conditions.

I believe the effect is meant to be the rain on the F1 driver's helmet, not the camera. It's more the way the rain itself looks though, because in the F1 video it actually looks and moves like rain. In GT5 it looks more like a cheap sprite, not just when it's on the windscreen but also in the air.

GT3 was one of the games I played the most on the PS2. Probably my favorite racing game of all time and the modding aspect was definitely fun. It's like RPGing for cars. Since then I haven't enjoyed modding in any other racing game quite like it.

Anyway, I haven't been into racing games much this generation of consoles but I'm thinking it's either GT5 or maybe DiRT 3 as has been mentioned. DiRT was quite excellent imho though I didn't play it as much as I should have.

At minimum, I will prob rent GT5 since I skipped GT5prologue.

My only question about GT5 is about 3D. I played it for 30 seconds at E3 in a 3D setup and at the time I was so distracted by getting the 3D glasses to work it ruined the experience which was sad because I couldn't give the game a fair shake before I had to go to a meeting.

Anyone here have a 3D setup for their PS3 or is planning on getting such a setup? Otherwise, anyone give GT5 a serious go in 3D at a friend's place or somewhere else? Curious about reactions, if any.

Yeap, I'm like 10 hours into the game now, and GT5 is the most bizarre thing ever it may look like the best thing you've ever seen in a moment, and in the other it may look like a fucking PS2 game! xD

Played it yesterday at HP's place for a bit. I really couldn't find how this game is better in any way to Forza III. Looks exactly identical to me (and probably 99.9% of players of both games), has the same gameplay modes (GT5 has karts, which I don't think Forza III has). All in all, taking 6 years to deliver that vs 4 years to deliver 2-3 Forza experiences, I think Forza is the better offering. Not to mention a commercially much more sensible one too.

Not sure if you can compare it to Forza.

GT5 is a car collecting game for Top Gear fans with OCD.
