What I like it's the game arround the idea of calm surrealism.
For solaris :
An expedition is not responding, following a meeting of a planet that has its own consciousness. It acts on the memories and materialize themselves. Reached the end of the film we don't know who or what is true, if is still a memory.

It's taken awhile for me to realize it but I don't think Michael Mann is actually any good. Heat is probably his strongest but everything else either doesn't hold up over time or is just a straight up fucking bore.

I like Michael Mann, i love the focus on the protagonist / antagonist at the same time, seems like a good mix. The only one of his movies i cant stand is Miami Vice... that movie is crap.

I've never been able to settle with a top ten or even a top five. The only spot that has always been unchallenged is of course Aliens as the best movie of all time.
Aliens - yep...it was such an inspiration to the games industry we all owe a lot to it. Cameron at his finest
Apocalypse Now - best cinematography in a war era movie. It's not the action that makes this movie awesome, but rather the notions it explores.
Fight Club - dark humor at its finest. Great soundtrack
LotR Trilogy - It captured the essence of fanboy fantasy elves and dwarves and etc. and made it accessible to the masses. Lots of people took this excitement into playing World of Warcraft. I salute you, Peter Jackson. Sweet music too.
Inception - Nolan manspooges his snow fort assault in final act all over the screen. Totally unnecessary yet totally necessary all the same. BWWWWWAAAAAHHHH at it's finest, too. This movie forced most people to watch it more than once to understand wtf was going on. Each time you watch it you like it a little more. Otherwise a cool take on the idea around dreams coming alive.
The Dark Knight - for one reason only: Heath Ledger's Joker. Worthy of the Oscar the performance received. Carried a movie that otherwise was full of plot holes. Some nice BWWWAHHHH too.
Raiders of the Lost Ark - it's at the level of archetype in modern film now
The Ice Storm - little known drama set in 1970s stuffy Connecticut suburbia where parents swing and preteens / teens explore drugs and sexuality. Excellent performances and awesome use of subtlety.
Buffalo 66 - another small indy film...this movie DEFINES the moment of personal transformation. Amazingly well done
E.T. - yeah, kind of a kiddie movie, but it inspired a generation of young boys to just get some balls and go for something in life. Elliot basically took on "the authority" and saved E.T. and found his courage in the process
Ghostbusters - the best comedy of all time. It's both hilarious and really really creepy at the same time.
Empire Strikes Back - Let's face it, the best Star Wars movie of all.
Star Trek: Wrath of Khan - KHAAAAAAAAAN! On so many levels this movie is all sorts of badass. Shatner at his ass kickingly finest. Everything you want in a Star Trek film and no purple bazooka or melting Romulans other crap in the TNG movies which were 89% shit (First Contact was ok)

Saving Private Ryan - in a way, considered a cliche today but the games industry was clearly inspired by it. Working on DoD and CoD, everyone had seen SPR a bunch of times, poured over footage and had intellectual discussions on what worked/didn't work about the film and how that could serve as inspiration for game design and art direction. Not everyone loves it but it helped spawn a successful wave of WWII gaming. I had never seen a war movie like it before.

You have a lot of great picks to which I can only add the following:
Platoon: Oliver Stone at his finest. Charlie Sheen his best performance. For me, the definitive Vietnam war movie and a true masterpiece from start to finish.
Full Metal Jacket: I think this is the best Kubrick ever made. The dialog in this movie is amazing. Very memorable scenes that will forever live on in cinema's history.
Terminator (1 and 2): There isn't enough room to praise these movies. Definitely Arnold's best work.
Jaws: The first real blockbuster and I think it's the movie with the biggest cultural impact. It influenced entire generations. Personally, I still prefer Bruce over the CGI sharks we use now.
Robocop/Total Recall/Starship Troopers: Verhoeven's epic sci-fi trilogy. Great oneliners, memorable characters, great action, violent, awesome satire and more violence. The best the Dutch ever made.
Predator: Isn't this the movie with most testosteron ever? Every man loves this. Must have seen it a hundred times. Plus, the soundtrack. Silvestri's finest.
Rambo: The first Rambo is a timeless classic. Also a movie or franchise with a large cultural impact. Rambo, it is known!
Rocky: A movie that motivates you to challenge live and win. Whenever I need to get pumped I watch the first one or the last one. Amazing movies!
Conan: I love Howard's work. I love Arnold movies. I love the soundtrack which still gives me goosebumps. This for me is the ultimate 80's sword and sorcery movie.
True Romance: Best movie ever written. This has such good dialog that it's unmatched. Tarantino's greatest script. The scene with Walken and Hopper is mind blowing.
The Matrix: I was and I'm still blown away by the first one. Great story, script, acting, visual effects, etc.
Full Metal Jacket: The dialog in this movie is unmatched.
True Romance: This has such good dialog that it's unmatched.

Blue Velvet -- if you haven't seen this movie, drop everything you're doing and watch it. It will have an impact on you
Others:
No Country for Old Men -- brilliant film, one of the best in recent history
City of God -- a great modern epic
Amorres perros -- another great south american flick
Taxi Driver -- sick film, really puts you in the mind of a psychotic loner and shows you society in a whole new light
Stalker -- really good movie by Tarkovsky, it's crazy how it not only inspired the game but nailed the same mood decades before, and also prior to Chernobyl even happening in the first place! WTF!
Doctor Zhivago -- if you like great cinematography, this movie is a must. Nice story as well
The Deer Hunter -- easily the saddest movie of all time
Eraserhead -- not really one of my personal favorites, but definitely an incredibly significant film that I would watch if I was trying to expand my mind and thinking
Koyanisquatsi -- this is a really special movie
Godfather 1 + 2 -- there is no better film series, the acting and writing and craftsmanship of these films is deserving of all the praise
Glengarry Glen Ross -- simply powerful performances and writing, this movie has BRASS BALLS!
American Beauty -- one of those movies that you can't deny, it has ridiculous power
Brazil -- wonderful movie, very artistic
Jacob's ladder -- very in your face, very creepy
Questionable:
Once upon a time in America -- I went back and watched this, which I thought was my favorite movie of all time, and I thought it stunk. but I'll put it on this list because it does do some things very well, and if you don't take it TOO seriously, or go in with high expectations, you might fall in love
Stroszek -- good movie but it might drive you to suicide, as it did the lead singer of the band Joy Division. It's that kind of movie
