yeah it's not like it used to be, I'm kind of looking forward to getting back to mapping and doing much smaller/rougher projects again.

I'm agreeing with campaignjunkie. Also I guess most people here were much more involved and up to date with the modscene five years ago than they are now.

The mod community isn't dead, it has just changed name and form to "indie games" community.

Truth here. When I went looking for a mod team to join, I ended up on an indie game team. Indie games are the new TCs. Thanks UDK & Unity!

Why mod a game when you can make your own game?

Because Half-life/Unreal/Quake comes with art assets many people don't have the tools or knowledge to make, but they do have the free level editor that came with the game. At least personally it's the real reason I was ever into mods- because it was something as an amateur I could actually do.

Edit: I agree with campaignjunky. While big total conversions are shrinking because the standards for them kept getting higher and higher, there's still lots of people making custom levels for tf2, UMC maps in SC2, stuff for Oblivion and Fallout 3, etc. Actually, the Bethesda games seems to me to be one of the single biggest modding communities, there's thousands of things on the Nexus sites. It's insane how much stuff gets made for those games.

Why isnt there a mapcore mod ?

It's an indie game that Spellbinder made, or someone else. It was in EOT at least.

BUT THERE SHOULD BE A NEW MAPCORE GAME.

I remember the "mapcore - towers" idea going around a few years back.
