It wont, but it'll do wonders for Mandelson's retirement funds... Labour need to seriously fuck off...

I don't really want Labour to win in May as some time out would do them good but at the same time the only other people who will get enough votes to take their place is the Tory's. Their vision of the UK includes B&B's with signs that say "no gay's" according to one member.

    It passed.

Yesterday we watched the 2nd reading of the Digital Economy Bill. Today we watched the 3rd reading.

In short: Democracy wasn't present. Those wishing to censor ideas have been given a most powerful weapon. Culture will suffer. Whilst creators will gain nothing...

    ---

There are 646 MPs. About 40 turned up for the second reading. About 16 made it to the end.

The third reading has been just as bad. Almost Empty. 2 hours given to debate amendments to 50 clauses.

The first clause took 1hr. The last 49 were glossed over in the last hour.

Ten minutes before the vote labour MPs put down their drinks, pulled themselves out of the bar and stumbled in to vote for the Bill. Having listened to nothing.

I think Australia kind of has the lead there.

20,000 people emailed their MPs to oppose the bill, 16 turn up to vote and pass it. this is why voting in parliament should be mandatory or else why do we even elect them.

Thing is, this isn't actually law yet - the Lords have to pass it which, due to them actually understanding things such as civil liberties and the law, hopefully won't.

If it does, it would be enacted for a year and a half from now. Plenty of time for it to be repelled.... See More

    We shouldn't panic just yet...

they don't know all that much about technology though, especially the internet. but this law does give peter mandelson (who is business secretary and the de facto prime minister, despite having never been elected) the ability to choose to block any section of the web, which is the one thing they might notice and cause them to vote against it.

    The plot thickens...

‘A Labour spokesman said Timms was an expert in this area, pointing out that he wrote a book about broadband 25 years ago, “before many people knew what it was”.The spokesman added: “He is in total command of the detail and it would be ridiculous to suggest that he doesn’t know the difference between intellectual property and internet protocol. This is an embarrassing slip and Stephen Timms will make sure it won’t happen again.”’
