I really don't see the point in this game. EA has a quite strong "modern warfare" brand with Battlefield. Nobody is gonna break CoD's market dominance anytime soon. The love that franchise gets by the gamers is way too irrational and out of control. EA just make themself competition for the same market share that is left next to CoD.

I dont think the goal is world domination in the market, but to earn moneys.

I see what you did there EA!

I will hold myself back until there is more info available, maybe they've got some cool ideas that make the game worth playing, but on paper this concept sounds so lame to the point that it makes me angry. It isn't merely a sign that EA clinges to its franchises, I guess that we are used to and that has been mentioned before as part of the "transformation process", but the timing of this announcement right after MW2's release is so awful and the scheme behind it so obvious...I'm baffled. If EA's new strategy is to do whatever Actiblizz does and to cut everything else, well then, good luck! You'll need it!

I lolled... saw this one coming actually, seems to be the in thing to revive IPs with the original title as a new game. COD works because it's all sorts of locations, setting this in just Afghanistan will be boring and will struggle to appeal to a wider audience past those that like special operations shooters set in desert/middle eastern locations.

Yeah, that point seems especially worrying. Even the European front of WW2 had more variety in locations than I'd imagine you'd encounter in Afghanistan, but then again I don't really know that much about the country's land. I doubt it matters overall as games with incredibly repetitive environments like BioShock have still done really well.

The timing is kind of amusing, especially when you remember that Call of Duty did pretty much exactly the same thing back in the day when it leapfrogged Medal of Honor's success and was in many ways indistinguishable.

I don't think it'll be a bad game. It is Medal of Honor after all, and from what I can tell it's the original team working on it. Have there even been any other games that take place in Afghanistan, a country we've been waging war in for years and far longer than Iraq?

At the very least it'll be fun living out Ross Kemp in Afghanistan (Now there's a game concept!).

The modern setting allows then so much freedom, shame they're sticking to Afghanistan. But understandable, trying out new IP's hurt EA pretty badly, apart from ME and DA:O.

There is great reason for this game! Who cares if it even competes with anything. Its just great to see the modal of honor series back and based on something new raveled with the Afgan war.

The beard is actually common in special operations groups in Afghanistan - beards are the norm there, to the point that having them helps them interact better with the locals. Check the picture in the Red Wing link stolve posted.

I know, that cover still looks like a coder in the video games industry to me

Jetset, I didn't say that it would be a cool mission to play, but if you turn on your imagination and\or look up for SF missions (or just general missions), you can come up with something pretty epic stuff... Afghanistan is probably also the most varied country from a topographic sense, they have everything from deserts to fronzen mountains.

Thrik, that game already came out, it's called Pokemon Snap

There should be more games like Pokemon Snap. I can't think of a single other one besides half a gameplay element with Dead Rising and they cut it from the sequel.

Maybe they could piggyback even further on COD and make it about exposing war crimes of soldiers like those in the Modern Warfare games, including the finale being about exposing a CIA agent joining terrorists planning on attacking a Russian airport. Medal of Honor: War Photographer.

I also fucking hate that dude's beard. Like, c'mon, ever heard of a razor?

As far as I know, it's pretty common, for SF operators, to grow their beard.

It's to be more accepted around the iraqi's and afghans. Growing your beard is encouraged by the company commanders. And tbh, a well grown beard is proper manly and badass. Look at that spec ops guy, he's manly.

i hope you can customize your player and pick from a large variety of sweet beards. or maybe like tf2 hats where you can earn increasingly awesome beards.

I was just a few feet from that guy at a big roadster show in January. I would've said hello or something but he was on camera...

funny thing...I'm right in the middle of growing my own supreme size beard.

my father had a huge beard like that special ops guy in his 20's. It's been a month now so I figure 2-3 more months tops and I can get it styled.

That's a nice excuse for not having to shave every 2 days!
