Well, Eurogamer gave the original Kane & Lynch 7/10, and for my money KL2 is vastly superior in every way.

We got copies today, so I've been playing the story mode on Extreme difficulty, even after having played through the entire game two times or so throughout development then I still find it to be good fun. Extremely hard, but nothing anyone who's play COD on Veteran can't handle.

But yeah, the reviews so far are pretty fucking awful. I'm not saying that this is the end-all-be-all game, but it's definitely way better than the first game in my book, lots of these reviews make it out to be worse.

Yeah, just judging by the demo every complaint about KL2 I had with KL1 except for the stealth section was completely gone (the stealth section is tbd- haven't heard anything about it from people who have played the whole game). Bullets come out of the camera now instead of your character's weapon, so you don't end up shooting up your cover when your crosshair is clearly on a dude you want to shoot, and that change alone makes KL2 at least, like, three times better.

there are only 3 review sources i trust as of late

    and game trailers:

(jury is still out on that one !)

all the journalists that hated the game already before unwrapping it

and all the "you can buy a 9/10 review here" news outlets

can go swallow a dick as far as i am concerned !

Video review on GB by Jeff Gerstmann. Summary is "Amazing game... with not enough content to be worth buying over renting". Sorry IO

Wish there was a way for games to be rented that doesn't screw over the devs. I can get a movie off Netflix and not feel bad about it but if I rent KL2 instead of buying it, that's nothing for the makers

More dumb shit from the gaming media.

K&L2 is good. Reviews are dumb.

I'm close to the end of the game now, and I have to agree, more content would have been nice. Still, I think for whats there, the game is awesome and I'm fully enjoying it. My only crit about length is that I was hoping there would have been low points in the gameplay; walking around/talking, meeting people, mini game maybe, etc/whatever, but its non stop shootouts. (For instance, the scene in Max Payne 2, where you walk around and do shit in the police station.) Don't get me wrong I enjoy them a lot, but a break in shooting and doing something else from time to time would make this game ACE to me. My other gameplay nitpick is that I was hoping for some sort of heist or bank robbery style scenarios; maybe a heist in the beginning or something, knock off a truck full of guns, whatever, but its just run and gun and get out of dodge only it seems. Some really cool gun fights though, but that's all it really offers.

Yeah, more breathers in general would've been nice. I'm into the fifth level on Extreme, call me biased but I'm really enjoying it Maybe my tune will changes once I get to FA, I've played that A LOT the last two years

I rented it (promising to myself I'll buy it the first time it gets a steam sale for the multiplayer). Beat it in four hours. Those were mostly a fun four hours, except for the BS deaths whenever a guy you didn't see gets within ten feet of you and instakills you, knocking back to the last checkpoint that could be as far as three or four minutes back, maybe even before an in-engine cutscene. Ending was very cool, but I feel like it needed more time to revel in that coolness- after the final bit of gameplay you get like four seconds of cutscene and then credits. Not even an ending voice mail or something along those lines. Or even the

    plane flying away

behind the credits. Not a big deal, but I would've appreciated it.

Yeah I agree, but I still think some more gameplay should have been added on the

plane, or like you said at least a cutscene. Stupid camera guy had to stay in China. LOL The airport was like the easiest part of the game besides the beginning. I think they could have done something better. I was expecting something more over the top then mw2's airport scene. The ending was so brief, I said out loud; "thats it"???

unfortunately I cant play the multiplayer since it does not seem there are more then 4 guys and his dog playing it I just sat waiting for 20 minutes again tonight. I really want to try it out, but man, it really suffers from not having dedicated servers.

Currently the PC version is the highest rated overall, with a 70 metacritic score. I wonder if it hurts to have the version that was outsourced do best. >_>

it does best because there is the smallest amount of reviews being counted for the averaging

But it also doesn't have suspect stuff like the Official Xbox Magazine score in its favor.

    Some guy on another forum had this to say;

    Quote

My single gripe: too short. Otherwise, an amazing game, imo.If you're looking for something to WOW the fuck out of you, I'd recommend K&L2. It's the first game I've ever played where I feel as though the developers actually captured the setting of a real city, and the fact they chose Shanghai just makes it even better. It makes NYC look fucking gay, and makes Liberty City look like a damned cartoon. Top that with the 'surveillance cam' filter, and it absolutely nullifies any gripe you may have had about some obscure bit of graphics. I think it could be the reason the game is so pleasing to the eye altogether. Definitely the single most intense thing I've played to date.

I have never seen a game with more mixed reviews. Reviews seem to score anything between 1 (Destructoid) and 9 (OXM). I think that's very interesting, despite perhaps it being unfortunate for the developers. I wasn't planning to buy this game prior to reviews/release, but now I think I might have to.

In a way I'd prefer the scores to be all over the place like this rather than being solidly placed on the metascore. It's kinda cool that it's this dividing. Then again, I'd prefer it having scored better.

To be honest then I think the Easy difficulty should've been completely taken out of the game, and have Extreme be the new Hard. It's maybe a poor excuse, but playing through the game on Extreme you certainly can't complain that it's too short, and personally I think it makes it a lot more intense.

And yeah, the GT review is nice, lots of people seem to respect their opinion.

That would result in a lot more frustrated players I think. On Medium I had a lot of deaths that felt unfair. In KL1 you couldn't just die outright, you had the 'extra lives' of adrenaline shots, but in this game if a guy gets up close to you you're just dropped nearly instantly, even if they only have a pistol or small smg, because it seems like all the guns are super damaging, relying on inaccuracy to balance them. The accurate guns (deagle, the semi-auto rifle a few of the military units drop) are all one shot kills. Maybe if the "down but not out" thing was a guaranteed buffer between you and death whenever you take a lot of damage, so there was some forgiveness there for mistakes, or if the checkpoints were more generous.
