Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days

Played two hours straight of the demo multiplayer with a group from SA. The demo hack let us have a private game together organized through a steam group, which was grand. Undercover Cop is almost the best mode, except when the undercover cop accidentally injures a goon in the first five seconds of the round, which automatically exposes him and then he's dead and the rest of the round plays out just like Fragile Alliance except less interesting because you're down a player. The undercover cop should be able to attack the goons, god. He's undercover. Haven't any of you at IO played No Russian!?

Also we were discussing Kane and Lynch 1 between rounds in the group chat (long waits between matches for that long ass "Closing..." screen) and someone idly mentioned an exploit to the GFWL system that completely trivializes it, something that if it were common knowledge would probably kill off the service entirely. I can't believe how lazy/terrible MS was/is with GFWL.

We know about an UCC exploit, it's been fixed for the day one patch on 360 and PS3. Not sure about PC, but I figure that should be in place for launch as well.

Edit: Just reread what you wrote, donno what you're on about

It's a bit of laziness on MS's part that makes GFWL product protection/verification trivial, so pirates can play online/without a disc.

As far as Kane and Lynch 2 specific stuff, from my experience last night the Undercover Cop 90% of the time is the same guy in a repeat group, and this experience has been concurred by a 360 demo player.

Haha, they've shown that scene in other trailers (including the one at the end of the demo) but I never noticed that when Lynch offers to shake Kane's hand he's doing it opposite the hand Kane's holding his luggage with, which is why he gets snubbed.

tried the demo, was pretty cool and fun, looked very nice after i turned off the fullscreen effects that just made everything into huge pixels with a huge pink stripe down the middle as an overlay .__. crashed when trying to start a mp game

We actually got scans from the mag, Mafia II scored 7/10

It's still way too early to call it though, lotsa times the early reviews are the highest scoring, lotsa times they're just about the average. Very exciting times either way

I heard Mafia 2 has super computer as its recommended stats because they went way overboard with Physx simulated buildings exploding, to the point where two cards in sli is required to render it all. Clearly this negatively impacted the Xbox magazine's review, as the Xbox does not have two video cards. It barely even has one

I think that changed a bit with Starcraft 2, I mean, it still runs on the standard for shitty hardware (integrated graphics) but on lower than max settings the shadows and textures look ass, especially the shadows. I despise that grainy shadow effect. Of course, I can just set the game to all Ultra on my sub-$300 home built computer, so

Speaking of performance, I hope Kane and Lynch 2 get some optimizations for crowd situations because it dropped my framerate by 40fps during that one part in the demo where you're out on the street and a bunch of npcs are running from the firefight. Kinda surprising given Blood Money and its mardi gras level. Even KL1 had some crowds going on like in Hong Kong and the prison and nightclub. The street in KL2 had maybe a dozen people total... It's not like my shit's subpar either, 3.2Ghz C2D, can't expect much more than that average. Cheap ass quad cores are starting to be packed in Dell/HP PCs based on the "more things = more value = we can bilk them for more" logic that leads to those same machines having 8GB of shitty low quality fail prone ram, but according to the Steam hardware stats 55% of users are on dual core machines.

When SC2 was in beta, all my friends could play it, even if some of them had to play it on lowest, they could still have fun with it

I cant say the same for any other game I've tested with my friends the past few years. I think the last one was WoW.

I watched a stream of the first two levels last night and uh, I guess I hope there's a day one patch or something coming cause it was looking pretty janky, especially with animation for doing stuff like blind firing from cover while moving (makes your hand freak out), and it seemed like the difficulty was really iffy, something I noticed in the demo, too- you can take a bunch of shots from a distance and get knocked down and get up again and get to cover and be fine, or, you could take a single bullet from a nearby dude and instantly die and have to go back to a checkpoint. Dying sucks, dudes. I think we can all agree on that. Dying especially sucks in checkpoint games where the checkpoints aren't quite close enough and you have to replay two or three (or more) minutes of stuff you've already done to get back to where you died. And then you die again. I saw that happen twice to the guy playing. It's not even like he was a bad player or playing on a high difficulty either, he selected Normal and for being on 360 he was pretty impressive at accurately and quickly shooting dudes.

The characters still were the absolute best part of the game and it made me realize that this would be like ten times a worse game if you were deaf or had the audio off and went to play it.
