First details on Minh Le's game that he has been tinkering on for ages and that I've completely forgotten about (seems like a release is near):

Hah cool. Minh wanted me to map for this but they couldn't afford me (exchange rates suck) I've been talking to him about this again lately and one thing that amazed me was the price on contractors! The company he's with were getting Chinese guys churning out quality weapons for pennies.

Hmmm, I'm kinda sceptical about how similar it seems to CS. I think Gooseman is awesome, and a really nice guy the few times I've spoken to him, but to me it doesn't really make sense that he'd do something so close to CS, especially with that story about him leaving Valve cause of high expectations for a CS2 and such.

Anyway, hope its good, the dogs and human shields sound like some pretty cool additions to the formula of CS.

Looks more like a Source mod than a stand alone game, presuming it is Source seeing as that article says it's on the same engine as Half-Life (2 i hope...)

Not too impressed atm but has potential.

ill pass on this i am done with the whole "swat theme"

i fear that he is in a tough spot becasue both the super arcady and the super realsitc end of the spectrum has been (and ocntinues to be) well covered by counterstrike and rainbowsix

but i love that they are not faking any screenshots:

shotgun sticks through arm (on the left) blood decal is cut off in an ugly fashion droped weapon is perfectly level in the air ! this is a REAL DEAL screenshot =)

I don't get why he would leave valve, and why doesn't he come back.

Also what are the rates for mappers and modelers here in the west?

Yea I know, why make another counter-terrorism game? Now if it had the "Counter-Strike" tag on the box, it would sell millions by default (and probably have more than one publisher willing to market the game for a share of the profits, thus enforcing the effect). Oh well, I guess this is more about somebody making their dream game, than creating as much revenue as possible (not that he had the option to begin with, now that CS belongs to Valve and he quit that job, just saying..) and who knows - could be a really fun game! Minh knew what he was doing when he created CS after all

    "Counter-Strike 2: Tactical Intervention"

    Fixed!

[edit]Wtf? That's the Half-Life 1 engine? Guess the lack of normal and specular maps means so. I don't think it looks that bad really but I'm not a graphics whore. I think it's cool that Gooseman is making the game he wants to make, not many of us get that opportunity...

Thats where I worked at in Korea for 2 months, its Source (left 4 dead engine to be exact) and as he mentioned in the interview, the core team is very small.

As far as I know, Minh is the only mapper after I had to go.

Also he should have taken a screenshot with AA on

I thought that too but when you look closely it sure doesn't look like it. No specular or phong, the normal maps look painted on and the skybox is horrendously low res (256*256?) which makes me think D3 is right.

Then again other shots look like they have stock Source content in the blood splatters and bullet holes so its totally inconsistent.

it just needs polish I highly doubt those are finished levels and in such case they shouldnt show them, the public don't understand work in progress (thats only if the public care about gfx like most of us assume)

Which is about a good 85% of the public, someone said to me recently that they wont bother playing Modern Warfare 2 because it "looks like shit"

It looks like a bastard love child of HL1 and Source (which is odd considering the latter is a heavily modified HL engine anyway). I guess it probably is WIP content but why show that if the game is close to finishing? Seems an odd thing to do. I wasn't able to view this at work yesterday but I fucking lolled hard when I saw the shotgun sticking into the other guy last night.

Why only for 2 months? It didn't work out or did you have to return?

i know nothing of studio politics or economics, so could somebody tell me how it is, with the astronomical success of cs, that Le isn't able to finance his own project, and is relegated to moving in with his parents to save money?

He sold cs when he was young and only wanted to pay of his student debts. He never expected cs to be as popular as it has become. If he knew know he woulda have sold it for a lot more. So he says
