    Quote

The highlight of the Modder’s Pack is the powerful ChromED editor. It’s a complete solution for creating and modifying fully functional multiplayer and single-player maps. It offers two modes of operation. In Simple Mode (default setting) it offers a step-by-step wizard which guides users through the process of establishing all basic parameters of the map and features a simplified interface. The Advanced Mode boasts full capabilities of the professional tools used in the development of CoJ: Bound in Blood. It’s recommended for experienced modders and offers unrivaled power and control over the content.Together with ChromED, Techland provides an exporter for the industry standard 3D Studio Max, allowing users to import their own models into the game (custom textures, animations, effects, music and sounds are also supported).

In addition, the editor puts all the content of Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood at its user’s disposal. All the assets used to build the game can be rearranged, combined and used in new creations.

    Features:

A streamlined and user friendly interface in Simple Mode and the full might of professional game development tools in Advanced Mode

Supports single-player maps and all 5 multiplayer modes of CoJ: BiB

Three predefined environmental tilesets: Arizona, Mexico and California, each with three prearranged terrain maps (including blank)

Awesome, the link doesn't work but I guess it's temporary.

I'll definitely consider it for my future project, I loved Bound in Blood!

wow yea hthat sure looks great and easy to use !

but how come none of these insane wysiwyg editors are taking off ?!

i mean farcry 2 doesn't really have a huge mapping following right ? because they editor demos looks just like this ! and same with crysis

WYSWIG editors are supporting only new titles so mappers that are working in VHE, UED or GTKR need to get used to new mapping technique. It's a lot different (no BSP, brushwork and static lightning) but still it's fun

Nice tool! It's cool to have modular editors like this these days but it's obviously very tricky for amatures to make the kind of unique art assets to conform to all the rules. That is if you're trying to make something unique not just slap together stuff like in this video.

How are the cinematics and scripting tools?

    Here are some tutorials:

    http://www.cojmodding.com/?id=tutorials

There are only basics in scripting but soon there will be more tutorials.

BTW. Chriss, there are three types of mappers:

1 - mappers that are just using models to create funny/stupid environment

2 - mappers that are using models to create interesting and realistic environment

3 - mappers that are creating custom models to create unique environments

It's sad that there's lack of third type mappers in COJ:BiB...

Maybe because its more fun to be creative in an oldschool editor as a hobbyist. These new type of editors are fantastic for professional work when a constant flow of new assets is coming in daily and when you work under time pressure. But they take away from the creative freedom if you are not a good 3d artist also. And doing assets yourself is very time consuming and you have to be damn good already to create some nice looking stuff.

    My opinion exactly!

Working on a Crysis level that needs quite a lot of custom content, I can't be expected to create anything as good as the original game or what recent games are up to. To create a unique and detailed map in these engines, you'd need to be part of a team, with level designers and env artists working together.

Yes, in old map editors there was only one guy that did all the level work. Now we have environment artists, gameplay designers/scripters, level designers and so on...

Anyway, I think it's not so hard to make a map in ChromED
