I'd almost say try to use the textures in a completely new way other than d3, but I dunno the tech or whats involved. But it looks a little too much like d3 for my tastes on 2nd glance.

Maybe one day I can let go of this theme.

yeah, it fits it real well and provides a good amount of atmosphere. I love large open buildings like that. not empty, plenty to look at, things to hide behind.. yeah. that's real nice. love the light glow/hazy effect.

considering there's so much bulk of industrial machinery and crap in the hl2 assets it's surprising how difficult it is to take it all and make a convincing factory setting

it has a good look and feel but it's got that same kind of lack of purpose and place that you see in most industrial maps (mine included).

I agree, but I must however say, that It really dosen't matter if any real usage can e applied, not in a map that mostly focuses on trying to get some decent gameplay.

I however thinks, that If I were to make a map just for looks, I would have tried making something that could represent a real factory/wharehouse/whatever.

Btw, this is no factory, its a middle-station for a train. Import/export kinda thing...

plz cs_industrywest was very convincing gins or you talking about dm_zeta ?

Hipshot: hmm not sure about the lighting, the glows are too strong and this kinda lighting is getting boring (green'ish lights). I like the light_env angle/pitch and tone but the shadows are a bit too bright imo (just make it slightly darker).

hmm just had an idea (I think it's cool), why don't you rely more on the 'sun light' ? I mean, the map looks like its set in an abandoned place, why would people keep the lights on ? Would make it special and more realistic imo if you had just a few lamps on.

    I know all too well

The light env is nice, did you lower the lightmap scale on the floor? Has good shadows

@ Mino, been there, that looks nice too. I'm choosing between hazy warm, and varm non-haze. I have the exact same room compiled but w/o fog.

Alexroyce @ HL2W already released a Icecavern map for DODS. Probably the first DODS map.

zeta. i'm really kind of ashamed of the interior visuals, i felt there was so little i could do with them and custom models are such a pain in the ass, it's not even worth it for that map.

Hipshot, I agree it's the gameplay that matters i'm kind of a purist about making things believable, but it doesn't make much difference when you're being shot at

New pictures of my map. Finally got my hands on the DoD:S textures and models, so I can start adding detail to the map. Screenshot taken in CS:S, HDR simulated in Photoshop by skdr (thanks! )

Damn good! Some stuff bother me though. There are no marks around the blasted walls and the tables/chairs in the second pic dont really fit the map's theme imo. Maybe its just me, but I think it contrasts too much with the ruined buildings in the first pic.

I miss more shadows, around the crates and the streetlamp for example. Shots of real HDR lighting would be better as well, but environmental lighting is something which can be easily adjusted/nothing to worry about until you finish it up. Looking quite good, are you recreating a battle in a specific town?

Visually VERY nice. Good stuff insta.

My complaint would be that it doesn't say WWII yet. Or Europe for that matter. It looks very sandy and duneish for being in Europe. First thing I thought when I saw the pics was Northern Africa.

Either way it looks good. Looking forward to see more.

It looks sexy insta, I would like to see a DOD map with destructable environments. That would be awesome imho.
