I like the planet with the disc, because its nice and subtle, and just fits the atmosphere better (with the layer of cloud/fog on it).

    @ csyver

    All of them? O_o

Anyway, I was thinking of planets as moons to the big gas giant with the rings. That would definitely be possible. But I can see what you mean, maybe I should go ahead at at least delete one of them.

    @ sarge mat

    I agree.

And thanks Evert, DysPatch and deceiver!

i think changing them into a few moons would help, but i'd prefer to see only one or maybe two. this is too much and it does take the attention away, right now there's a bit of a lack of a composition in my opinion. and what is that big black thing growing out of the mountains on the right? i don't get it...

I just followed the concept art for the big black thing, but I agree, it looks kinda weird. I'm going to remove that.

God f*cking dammit... I was going to show a new version the scene now but the Editor crashed, as usual. That's what I hate with CE2, it crashes as soon as it's under a little stress. Maybe I'll redo it tomorrow.

That makes me curious about the concept art. Are you at liberty to post it here? I guess some big structure can work but right now it makes the treeline look weird (what the hell is going on there, upside down treeline?) and if you want to include it you'd need to scrap something else. Right now it's 10 postcards in one

I am not, but it has already been removed along with one moon and another one has been made smaller and moved to a better place. I can show you a pic whenever I have time to grab a screenshot, probably on Thursday. That little part was initially part of the concept art but the rest of the scene is now completely different (I no longer follow the concept art, I'm just playing around).

I hope you removed the left planet I think that was the one that was throwing it off. As for that black plus shaped thing it might look good as a more well defined tree stuck to the edge of the cliff.

If you want to keep all the planets I would firstly tone down the contrast on the planet with rings a bit more. As a general rule no part of anything you can see in the sky like that should be darker than the sky itself. Think about how the moon looks when you see it during the day.

Then I would shrink those two planets (or moons as you have decided they will be) by a factor of ten at least. Making them quite small in the sky would actually increase the feeling of scale to the whole thing.

Not really a level. More of a scene I made for a project a while back. It required some fine tuning so I've been working on it tonight. [Blocked Image: http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/6034/00115l.jpg]

I don't mind that planets could be as far as I know so close! Reduce them a little bit. Otherwise that as said below made me think of avatar and I fuck*** love it!

Okay, so... better or worse? I always seem to find something to adjust, but I can't work on it the entire night.

Map for a uni assignment. Feeling quite happy with it but there is still loads to do. Quite a bit if empty space and some dodgy parts. Going to add rain if I can make it look good enough too.

One good thing about uni is we have testing seasons so its easy to get loads of people to test it for you.

The ceilling on the 3rd screen looks flat. it should be cool to make something instead of that.

Here are those 2 environments I've been working on for uni.

The first is a handheld games environment for the DS:

    [Blocked Image: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7557268/Handheld/scene_redux4.jpg]

    And it's texture maps:

    [Blocked Image: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7557268/Handheld/textures_final.jpg]

The second is that post apocalyptic environment. Been adding loads more props and generally making it look more lived in. Still got lots left to do!

Got so much left to do, and I'm going to be working on 2 more environments over Christmas. Wow!

Okay, so... better or worse? I always seem to find something to adjust, but I can't work on it the entire night.

A few absurdly nitpicky thoughts, as this is a neat scene already... As best as you can depending on the setup, I'd match the haze on both planets so they look like you're viewing them through the same atmosphere. Seeing one planet appear darker and more clear than the other gives the impression that they're within the atmosphere. Might not hurt to shrink the smaller one even further; you don't need to go to realistic scale (where it'd be just a tiny speck in the distance), but it might still help to make the sizes a bit more extreme. Maybe shift it more to the left, too?

I'd also look at the rings. The ring itself is weird; it looks like an additive texture on a ring when it really should be taking light and shadow from the sun and planet, respectively.I'd consider tilting the rings to be non-axial, maybe closely mimicking the rock arch on the right. That also should give you the opportunity to get some light casting on them, then get the rings fading out as they fall in the planet's shadow on the right side.

http://www.spacetoday.org/images/Saturn ... _07_04.jpg is good reference for the way that the rings interact with the planet lighting-wise.

Also, I think you absolutely nailed the terrestrial elements at the bottom. But the birds could maybe be re-framed for better effect. Maybe lower to the rocks on the right, maybe flying toward the sun through the gap at the bottom? It's kind of an awkward clump right now and gets in the way of the planets a bit.

I think your barn and barn texture is letting you down here. The main chunk of the scene is gorgeous, but you've got some really bumpy and rough normals plus not a lot of breakup to the shape. I think a smoother texture with a little more structure on the front could be a real winner. Still, great work; the scene has come a long way already

MY GOD THE NORMALS, THE NORMALS!! That barn looks like it's made of wax

It's not the normals, it's the weird lighting combined with the overly bright specular. The normal map isn't very intense.

    It's fixed now anyway.

Maybe be a little more... constructive with your feedback.
