Yeah, I agree re: the steps... You've got this awesome organic form going on with the house, then obvious brushes as steps. Definitely thinner steps would help, and pulling a few verts could help break things up a bit - might even consider splitting a couple of them for a nice cracked and worn feel.

Might also spend a little more time on the roof - from the second shot, it looks really cool, but up close it looks a little weird around where the left side of the building sticks out.

Really cool vibe overall, though. I like! What's the goal of the battle? DM? SP? general scene-building?

Lol yes the shire was one inspiration

The battle is to make a scene to "identify yourself." Three screenshots of a map that shows you, your personnality, whatever. This is a little house in the woods that I'd like to live in. When I'm done there will be mountains in the background, more monitors/wires/technological things hanging from the trees, and a few magical crystals sprinkled throughout. A love of technology and nature, two seemingly dichotomous things that I believe can be seemlessly merged, are what define me. And magical crystals with energy are cool The contest thread is over this way

The steps, wall, and bridge-slats are semi-placeholders. Ideally I'd like to make them model's but there's only a day left. I'll definitely rough up the stairs though.

I haven't really bothered scaling the water texture up yet

KFS: What exactly strikes you as weird about it? The shape or texture alignment? It may just be the angle of the screenshot, but since the overhang inflects at the wall I made the roof follow its curve and dip in. Maybe I should pull the vert's on the displacement up a bit?

really sexy briscoe - love the ambience - because mapcore is all about finding something crap in something awesome: I think you should work on the rocks a little, they are too smooth and boulder-like, would be nice to get some more angry angles and mini-ledges on the rocks, if that makes sense.

    looks beautiful though, great stuff.

Very good, but I can't help but feel that the lighting is lacking that little something. I can't quite put my finger on it.

A suitable glow from the inset signs via an env_sprite would do wonders.

something like this is what you got to get. make the lighting have more contrast. add stronger lights. create texturelights in front of every of those advertisements or candy machines.

I really like the style of those white columns in the last shot. Try and keep that sort of architectural theme going.

This is probably too WIP and ugly to show here for a good while, but I'm bored and won't be able to touch it for some time: http://www.uploadhouse.com/fileuploads/ ... a7ca21.jpg

It is. I'm using it as an excuse to get off of my arse and work on my texturing, modelling, and lighting(still haven't found my little niche with Source) skills, which are very noobish. Though, naturally I start working on this at a point where I can't work on it at all due to lack of a decent computer.
