Both are very moody. Good work. I do feel the searchlight might be too bright.

Looking great cashed. I think I need to start looking at cs:go to see how better things look in the engine compared to l4d2.
-
So after my first gameplay test of volt, I learned I made a LOAD of mistakes and looking back at the first version of the map makes me laugh. I started on a new and more counterstrike friendly version to test but my Black Mesa work load is increasing and ultimately takes precedence. But, I figured id post what I had so far in hopes that I one day come back and finish it

Looks more like it JP, can't see A-site though, i'd think rotation is too quick now... but I dunno.
-
Oh, I should have mentioned it. I got rid of the train style idea and went with a more typical figure 8 styled layout. That first screenshot isnt A, its mid.

-
£5 JP abandons this in a month tops.

Did you even read my post?

I come here to look at pictures, not to read!

Stop posting broken images then

Why make this 8 styled layout again and again and again ?
It's boring, it's a great layout but it's almost the only one used (especially here by the mapcore members). Just take a look at de_train and de_nuke, they are pretty famous and work well, try to understand how they work maybe ?
-
sorry, but wut ?
-
-
yes, but why i can't find top-down shoots ?

Those are just few examples but almost every bomb map made here is made according to this classic layout. De_dust2 made it famous and, because it's easy to reproduce in any type of environment and because it works great, people rarely try to do something else.
You can also see this 8 styled layout on maps like de_inferno, de_tuscan, de_mirage, de_contra etc...

ok NOW i see it

maps like nuke and train aren't really balanced though

especially not nuke. I would be shocked if a map like nuke would be popular if it just released today, because it asks players to accept that one team has a tougher time
-
About de_nuke and de_trains, they are still played due to this unusual layout ! Every player that plays competitively knows that they are "CT-sided" (which means it's harder to win rounds for the terrorist team than for the counter-terrorist team) but it doesn't change anything because you play both sides during a match. Plus, there is the same balance thing in other maps (D2 is easier for terrorists, mirage is easier for terrorists ...), i'm convinced that it's not due to the original layout but just the map itself (in nuke, there is a big room with the bombsite A in the middle of it, CTs are on height while Terrorist must enter from the bottom of the room, it's obviously harder for terrorists to plant the bomb than in other bomb maps).
So indeed, it will be probably harder for the map to get famous because it's original. But i personally prefer maps like which tries to make something new.

I would love to do a nuke or train styled layout because I love trying different things in my maps. The only problem really is testing resources. To do a map that has a completely new layout (like nuke or train) requires a lot of testing and isnt really feasible on a 1-2 a week test schedule. Also if its a semi-public testing platform (like mapcore's server) people usually get tired of playing the same map's alpha versions over and over and over. Not excuses, just reality. Another part of this is these different layouts are also only where they are currently, in CSGO, because of billions of player hours testing over the course of the years since their release in the early 2000's. (that was on hell of an awkward sentence)
Whereas if you have a realitively well done figure 8 layout, it will play well with a lot less effort. Also while I said it as a joke before, it definitely applies - cs players seriously fear change and most non-dust2 styled maps probably wont be played very much, which is a bummer because I always love playing new things and ideas.
While I cant speak for comp modes or 5v5, I did play a lot of matches on train, nuke, and other non-figure 8 styled layouts in a 32 man server over the summer and there are just certain things you CANT DO. Example being if its any round other than pistol round, going "ramp" on nuke (entrance to B) is almost not possible. Ive seen an entire team of 16 rush ramp only to get entirely slaughtered in less than 15 seconds
But then again, that is a 32 man pub.
