I hope they reimagine the franchise as a visceral fps.

To be honest the city is largely irrelevant, no definition of noir says it has to feature New York or even night-time. It's all about the atmosphere, and while a snowy New York was absolutely wonderful that doesn't mean somewhere like a dreary Brazil couldn't be a similarly perfect fit as long it's executed right. And there's noone who's more likely to accomplish that except perhaps Remedy themselves. The trailer doesn't exactly fill me with complete assurance, but it doesn't fill me with dread either. They certainly capture the noir characteristics in quite a bit of the trailer, and while a lot of it shows action it's far from the first trailer to miss the mark by not showing enough of the story.

The most striking thing for me is that the bright, sunny look has been completely toned down and even the brightest of daytime scenes have a cloudy, overcast sky. While I'm sure there'll still be some bright areas to drive home the fact that it's Brazil, I'm guessing a lot of the game will feature an overall look closer to the original games (Max Payne's outdoor areas often weren't actually that dark due to the snow and bright lighting).

Actually Noire is an LA thing, so Sau Paulo should fit the bill just as well if not better than New York

The EDGE article said the game flashes back to what happened in New York, so there will be old fat Max in Sao Paulo, and Max with hair in New York.Personally I'm excited about the Sao Paulo location, but I don't have deep connection to the original games.

Ahhh then that might not be so bad. You must play the originals, they are timeless classics, especially the first one!

Regardless of any discussion of theme I'm pretty sure I couldn't bear to accept a Max Payne with a camera skewed to the side instead of centered three feet above Max's head, and nobody makes third person shooters with centered cameras anymore, no matter what. It's just what third person shooters are, without question, these days, and that's really very sad. They're all imitating a game that chose that angle specifically to reduce player view radius, to make the game scary...

Waiting for the inevitable HD remakes.

Barring the PC, of course, where you can run it at whatever res you want. MP1 and 2 (2 especially, they put a lot more texture detail in that game than was the standards for its time, and it really helps it hold up) still look fantastic imo.

I'd quite like to literally see Alan Wake's camera in Max Payne 3, actually. While it wasn't as far out as in the older Max Payne games, it was still far out enough to allow for exciting bullet time and it only subtly shifted to each side depending on which way you were looking. It was just generally pulled off really well IMO.

Rockstar has a history of having quite wide cameras with the character centred so it'd actually be unusual for them to not do it in Max Payne 3, but then they might not want yet another game that seems like it's been made to the 'Rockstar mould'.

Haha , sent it out to the studio spam list. Lots of ex-Rockstar Toronto guys that work here and worked on MP3. They are pretty bitter about R* and the game .

I was already hearing all the stupid crap this project was going through back in 2009 while working on AC2... I just don't see this being good unless they pulled a number on all of us...

I read some horror stories about Red Dead Redemption too but it turned to be one of the greatest games ever.

Points taken of course With a small caveat being both games you cited belong in the "had never been done before" category, whereas I'm still waiting to hear anything about Max Payne 3 that's groundbreaking
