I was waiting on a moment where there were some people screaming "Mapcore Rulllezzz" and were dancing like crazy.

I built a new cheapo machine with onboard graphics this week. Tried out the Crysis demo tonight.1) Playable FPS during the intro when the camera's outside the plane/overlooking the island.

    2) Terrible inside with the dudes.

    3) Good again outside, including going up the beach.

    4) Terrible again when I go inland into the brush to find Aztec. I quit at this point.

Still, significantly better than I was expecting. The pop-up ui to mod your guns was really super fucking neat. Hope that comes back in Crysis 2 I guess!

If you have the slightest interest in games, which I assume people on Mapcore to have, then why on earth would you ever buy a machine with onboard gfx? Makes no sense to me.

My graphics card hasn't arrived yet- a friend is upgrading to a 5770 and sending me his old 8800GT.

8800GT is alright, if you have enough ram on your PC. I made Vulcano on one of those!

I got the card today, installed it, had a false start due to skyrocketing CPU temps (took the hsf off, scraped off the too much thermal paste, reapplied far less and that fixed it- important lesson learned about setting up computers). Installed and patched Crysis. Launched it, and clicked the automatic config button.

It defaulted to all "high". Max settings available in XP.

And it's sooo smooth. And it looks sooo good. Holy christ. Best engine ever.

This is on a Pentium Dual Core 2.6Ghz, 2GB DDR2, 512MB LeadTek Geforce 8800GT. A machine comprised of $220 and some hand-me-down parts. I think it's running in about the 25-30FPS range (couldn't find a show fps command, crysis's console doesn't have autocomplete like source and some other engines do, my one and only complaint I can think of for it right now), but with the motion blur it looks very nice and smooth, kinda low how movies can get away with 24 frames per second because every frame is blurred.

Didn't do a whole lot when just running around, except made the game hitch a bit for the first 30 seconds of gameplay as it streamed in more stuff, but once I moved forward ten minutes and found a river I saw all the new benefits. Wow. Only visual misstep I've seen so far: I killed a dude in that same river, and instead of making the water red he just left a blood decal on the sand at the bottom of the river. Surely having a dude bleed into water isn't any more visually demanding than, say, a smoke grenade, right?

so JSL is actually reverse trolling here, pretending to like the game and then posting the ugliest screenshots he can take?

Out of curiosity, does that work with Warhead as well?

Never tested it, I've read some people saying that it works alright, others saying that it makes the game too dark. When I played warhead I played it on very high and it looked good. Budapest team tweaked the game visuals much better since the original vanilla Crysis (Based heavily on the community mods too) so I didn't really see the need for configs, but I'm sure there's a few around.

Click "View full size version", it's the automatic downscaling
