    I was browsing the bbcnews site when I came across this article:

    Now I have no bloody clue what the hell is going on in this article. The only thing I get is that a punter, british slang for Gambler, died or some such nonsense. Beyond that I don't understand what the hell was being bet on or if it was some sort of reality TV show or something.

    Please keep to serious discussion, any "omg pip pip cherrio righto indeed, is it tea time yet? quite it is" will not be tolerated.

    A 'punter' generally is more than a gambler, even though that is what is down in the dictionary.

    The guy betted on, what seems to be 6 horse races, get them all right and you can get a big pay out.

    At first it looked like he had done it, but one was later disqualified, then he was found dead, on the day that another winner was going to give him some money.

    The pensioner bet on a horse race and stood to win lots of money, the bet (totescoop 6) works by choosing SIX horses, all of which finished in such a place to give him lots of money. However later they were disqualified - getting him voted as the unluckiest gambler ever. A winner of a similar bet, being a fucking loon, was going to give him a fifteen thousand share of his prize money after hearing about it, but the unlucky pensioner has since been afflicted with death - so he can't.
