He looks like a badass and got the fitting nickname, something most of the other characters do not have. Short: he is distinctive and doesn't die in the first mission he's in. I know it isn't a whole lot, but obviously enough for a shooter ![]()
QuoteAfter actually playing the airport scene I was spectacularly impassive. You had spent no time infiltrating their ranks, learning about their cause, maybe even building up a little bit of empathy – you go instantly from being ‘hand-picked,’ to civilian death scripted sequence, to dead.
Ghost wasn’t just some dude; he actually had some character, and was in pretty much every mission. I didn’t care that Roach died, because he was some soulless husk for me to occupy, and I automatically assumed I was going to die at the end of every chapter anyway.

I totality agree with this. it's the same with almost every game, especially FPS's. When writers write a story for a video game, they almost always make it so you incarnate some unknown grunt. They say It's the best thing you can do in a game, because when you boot up the game, you don't know where you are or who you are, so it makes it easier for the player to be just another grunt. this is so wrong...
that's why games like DeusEx and Metal Gear stand out so much for me.

That's the same image I posted just on another host ![]()
I didn't know that the skull thing was actually used irl, just thought IW made the image up themselves.. heh.
QuoteGhost IS Gaz, you can't tell me that the two characters are different even though they sound exactly the same, I mean sure Craig Fairbrass voices both of them but for such a distinctive cockney accent to be used on both characters means that there must be some kind of connection.
I thought it was lame how Ghost died, he had so much potential and then they killed him off...
What's not to like about ghost?

I know! If you recall the original tagline of the first Call of Duty, it was "No one fights alone." This was a direct evolution from the Medal of Honor games where you were bit more of a lone wolf. I know the first CoD still revolved around the player (duh, it's a shooter game!) but the feel of it was more of "i'm part of a team / Band of Brothers / etc." So that whole brothers-in-arms (sorry GBX friends) concept has stayed true through the series I think, even though there is no actual squad control. (sorry I'm being distracted by a crying baby I have to go help so I'm rambling here...) Anyway, the little touches in MW2 like with what Ghost does/did is in alignment with that...
Ok baby feeding time...the more MW2 on PSN woohooo!
errrmm...has someone become a father and been quiet about it so far, or have I missed that up till now? ![]()

Um...yes MW2 will sell many copies. Discuss.
Epic thread!!!
I think he makes a lot of very good pointa. One thing that irked me was that there was no infiltration of the organisation at all, I fully expected some james Bond or Jack Bauer style shit to go down, but no, straight into killing people and I had no reason or explanation given to me. So I killed everyone because fuck it, who cares.
Insightful commentary - cheers for the read ;O
Yep, IW asked for it, IW is getting it.
Yeah, that's what I was talking about in my spoiler. It lacks any kind of context, it's a jarring scripted sequence. At best a controversial cheap shot.
Megami Tensei does a really good job of handling controversial subjects just because they build up to them well. It doesn't take a tiny break out from killing monsters to say “underage sex, hurr.” 1up gave Persona 3 an award like “most controversial game that created no controversy,” which I thought was quite appropriate. Kids shoot themselves in the face every 5 seconds, and it's fine.
Quoteanimu grinding games.
