Dearest Game Artist,It is with great excitement that we announce our upcoming game art competition. We've worked hard behind the scenes to get everything ready and in place.

The competition will go live on Monday, February 16th and we're hoping it's going to be the first of a bunch of more-regular, bigger competitions with solid specifications, interesting themes and a fistful of fantastic prizes for you to duke it out over.

We usually keep out competition specs hidden in a buried vault until launch, but we'll sneak a couple of hints your way, to get your game-art brains going:

    • [*:3rioow3u]This competition will be environment-based
[*:3rioow3u]You'll be allowed to form teams of up to 3 artists
[*:3rioow3u]Our biggest collection of prizes so far

Please keep an eye on your inboxes for newsletters and other announcements the closer we get to our launch day.

See you all again on February 16th!

nice prizes and task but just rebuilding a snapshot of an action movie is not that challenging in my opinion.

Winning might be though, assuming that the entrants will be really pushing the boundaries of what the engines can cope with. Plus, it doesn't necessarily have to be a realistic movie — could be something completely fantastical.

I'll prolly also post some stuff on my 3d sketchbook when there's something decent to show.

I completly agree dude, yeah! it's just that I love this movie so much, that It's some sort of a tribute!

Plus, cliches are sometimes the best weapon to gain the attention of others!

What do you mean live action? What did you thought it was?

Live action as "with living human characters". Apparently you can't use references from an animation movie. ( But a starwars episode 1 is ok )

This is fine, yes. As long as the CG is used to help support the live-action theme, go ahead You can't use a movie like the CG Final Fantasy films, but you could use something like the newer Star Wars films or Minority Report, etc.

    Too bad

I bet there must be one or two movies with some kick ass scenes you always wanted to recreate! This is like the perfect compo for every env artist!

    Alright

    http://www.game-artist.net/forums/scene ... acket.html

I'll try to make a composition in the same mood with some of the recurrent elements of the movie, something that somehow resume the message of the movie in one picture ..

wish me good luck .. haha

And good luck to you two, Hp and arhurt !!

We gave everybody the choice of either way remake an existing theme, or use a know theme/universe and come up with a new theme. So you can design your own scene as well if you like.

    cheers
