Insurgency is the only HL2 mod I know of with populated servers in Australia.

I've never had a decent game of Dystopia due to lack of servers but I'd like to. Same with FoF, it just keeps getting better and better but there's no damn servers here.

I haven't checked out any mods for other current gen engines. That reminds me, been meaning to checkout Hourences current project. http://%7boption%7d

All too common in Aus, even custom map servers for games are a rarity. Damn I can't wait to get back to Europe!

Funny I thought exatly the same thing a few days back, people at mapcore really love valve and their engine! I don't blame them, valve knows their shit, but so do other companies!

I've never bothered with other mods on other engines because the ones provided on GoldSrc have more than filled my plate so never thought of looking for new ones.

While the other companies know their shit, it seems not a lot of other mod communities really do know their shit as much as the one for hl1/(hl2??)

I've enjoyed my share of ut mods, but aside from that, what else I've played has been really sloppy (back in the days anyway), and it really felt like some of the other engines weren't really that good for modifications. Either that, or the people were just really shitty at it. But a lot of the mods just didn't feel right, whereas a lot of halflife mods just feel like they were just meant to be.

And come on, Desert Crisis anyone? sure, it had a really shitty community, but the game was insane fun.. And had customizable heads for the player models! Along with weapon loadouts, cool perks and fun objectives. Hands down one of the best mods I've played on the hl engine.

Reinstall Deus Ex, and try out ZODIAC and Hotel Carone. They're both really, really, really awesome.

Fun thing about Deus Ex- pretty much every mod for it is single player, exactly the opposite of how Source mods tend to go. Just my kind of scene.
