Going by the screenshots I like the fact its not a carbon copy and they have added extra stuff in and changed layouts a bit.

I don't care when it comes out, I can wait. Even after all these years I think it looks great for a fan project, and its hopefully going to end up being the best way to replay HL1.

That said, they sure are taking their sweet time

Have they even mentioned the alien part? That is such a huge undertaking I don't see them finishing their remake in the next few years at least. By which time Source engine will be almost 10 years old. That's the main beef in my mind with their game.

    Also:

What the hell is up with that wall with the door. Looks like concrete but I guess it's supposed to be metal because of the capsule-shaped door hole.

Looks like they get carried away and add shapes and textures in just for the fuck of it.

And people said Insurgency took a long time

Don't want to be an ass but its looking like the the Nightwatch of HL2 modding, it's not like they're trying to reinvent the wheel either ;(

Single player is evil unless you do it by yourself. Why not release it in 2 or 3 parts rather than attempting the entire thing, modders usually underestimate the importance of getting something released to give them a massive motivation boost, great mods are never "done" when they are first released.

    Abstract level design ftw!

It's not like Black Mesa is meant to be realistic at all imo. I'm ok with stuff like that as long as they look good (which is the case here)

I agree Chris. I have been trying to tell this to the nmrih team forever.

The Blackmesa team should think about just releasing parts of the game at this point. Has anyone even talked about this to them? I could also see this helping their moral level and possibly bringing in new talent after seeing work released.

I wonder if the lack of any news for ages is that they finally got the Xen section of the game and went "... fuck." Or the usual occurrence for mods is that 80% of the team lost interest/motivation/got industry jobs/disappeared/don't care anymore

Anyway is Captain Ego - aka Jean Paul still on that? tell us what the fuck is up dude.

I asked one of their devs if they had ever discussed or even thought about doing episodic releases and he said no.

It's certainly one of the two biggest things I did wrong at the time, but I can also completely understand how they might feel that after going this far they need to "finish" it - even if that is a trap (and the other biggest thing I did wrong on NW - committing to the original path out of pride and trust in our team and their work rather than reacting to what was actually best for the entire project).

Even doing an episodic release after this much time and effort has gone into it might require a significant shuffle of where they've got people and what levels they've focused on. But, it's absolutely the way to do it. One concern that comes up is whether you can maintain the releases following, but I think after all this time they're one team that probably wouldn't come up short in that category since so much work has been done.

xen will not be visible in any media update as part of the "we don't want to spoil the endgame"-policy.

When a game is over 10 years old, aren't we outside of the statute of limitations when it comes to spoilers?

No as in that seemed like it had never struck their mind, ever, to even consider to do an episodic release

not if the whole section is being redesigned and heavily lifted.
