Really wouldn't surprise me if it eventually ends up on the PC. It's not uncommon for Microsoft exclusives to go down that road.

GOW as in God Of War or Gears of War?
Gears 1 was released for PC 1 year after release, Gears 2 was never released for PC. None of the God Of Wars was released for PC. (Which is a shame cos it's prolly the most epic games ever)
-
He means Gears of War of course if we're talking PC ports =P.
-
Cheers HP. Very interesting article indeed.

I thought I knew what was going on, then it ended and I'm all fucked up again. I've had it all week with Red Dead keeping me busy but decided to put it on couple days ago expecting to play it briefly and ended up plowing through it. Not sure what to make of it but it was giving me some Silent Hill vibes throughout which is always welcome.
It's a really a tight experience all the way through, kinda wished it fell back on some more open sections, which they could totally have done but it's pretty obvious early on they're telling a pretty controlled story. Though the

sections kinda had a bit of this. Silent Hill always worked best when you felt you were just wondering around, spotting shit, shitting yourself, running away. In Wake they call out a lot of the encounters as well which kinda takes from the survival horror aspects, which it isn't totally cause it's less about scares and more about unnerving creepy shit. Which is fine i guess. I'm probably just being a bitch about this stuff cause I love the genre so much. Fuck yeah games with flashlights.

I thought about creating a new thread about this, but i'll post it here.

realease for PC commmon

-
Definitely recommend the first playthrough on hard mode. Makes the already terrific atmosphere even better when the enemies are super deadly and not just standard challenge obstacles.

-
I just finished act 3, and the game is indeed not that hard, a lot of ammo, a lot of batteries, which kinda takes the survivor horror aspect of the game away a bit, I wish I started on hard. (I still die like every half an hour at least, but still...
)I don't want to say too much before i finish the game, but so far I'm finding Alan Wake a really enjoyable, and well-thought single player experience. Haven't felt this way towards a game for a long time, Alan Wake really is a gem! So do your self a favor, and if you didn't buy the game yet, do it, you'll thank me later.
Oh, and as a side-note... The level design is genius in this game! I found it amazing how much exploration there is, but you still never loose track of the main objective and more importantly never get lost. Man, you learn a lot just by playing the game!

-
Restart on hard, HP. It's worth it. I never feel like I have too much ammo except when I stock up at one of those endless revolver bullet dumpsters, but I usually still run out. Some of the encounters are really hard when it only takes 3 consecutive hits to die. The hardest one so far was
Quotewhen you go into the house that has the toggleable lights around it and pick up the shotgun, which triggers the ambush of 6 or 7 Taken.
I think I'm almost at the end of Act 3.
QuoteI just finished going through the mines, ghost town, and fought off the birds attacking me on the lift.

Quote from Serenius
I think I'm almost at the end of Act 3.
Man yeah,
Quotethose mines were epic! And the ruins after that are even better!
I love how every environment speaks to yourself in a weird way, as in you look at the environment and you're being told what happened in there, and the history behind it! I felt this especially in the outside and inside of the
Quotemining complex
.
Bioshock and Alan Wake for me, are those titles that are way up there on environment story telling.
-
Funny you mention Bioshock 2. I just started it over the weekend, and while I can understand the people fuming over the storyline, the level of detail and environmental storytelling is leaps and bounds above the first game's, and it was terrific in that aspect.

The bit around the mine part with the old train that gets dismantled and thrown after you really stands out as one of the moments where I got creeped the fuck out by the game. Just so well executed on all fronts.
It's funny though, I'm playing through it on Nightmare now, and even though I totally know whats gonna happen around pretty much every corner, then the change in difficulty makes it feel surprisingly fresh. I still get freaked out when playing it through the second time because the enemies just have a longer presence and don't go down quite so quickly, adding up for more flanking around to stab you in the back

On man, the
Quotemusic stage "boss"
! The most memorable part of the game for me, so far... ah ah!
QuoteThe music ads so much, rock and roll baby!

BEHOLD THE GLORY OF MJOLNIR!

Finished this a few days ago!
Make no mistake, this is a horror game with a big emphasis on action. In fact, I'd go as far as saying this IS an action game with a genius psychological thriller plot behind it. (Read, you'll never be scared shitless like you did on Doom3 or AvP, it's more like a very deep and eerie atmosphere that will keep you on edge throughout out the whole experience.
- Some things could definitely be better like the freaking ugly characters that scare the shit outta you more than the "taken"!

- You definitely notice a few blurry / low res textures here and there, dunno if it's because console memory limitations, or the aging of the game. (Considered it took so freaking long to be developed), and some low poly geometry here and there, even though this only happens on day levels where you can see stuff a bit better! (Surprisingly tho, this are the most beautiful moments of the game!)
- It's too bad they didn't use the bullet time / slow motion features on this game, I mean after all it's what remedy is known for, but I guess they thought it must be overrated by now. (it's one of those things that we could fix if there was a PC version with mod support like Max Payne, but whatever)
- 70% of the time, you'll be playing in the woods, and this might feel a bit repetitive. (Even tho you always find interesting stuff like mining complexes, abandoned "western look" villages, ruins, etc, etc, etc.
On the other hand, I found the gameplay of the game totally enjoyable.
- The usage of light ads a really nice layer on top of the same-old shooting at enemies we're used to. Before being able to kill an enemy, you need to strike him with some sort of light, and you can do this with various ways (flashlight, flare, flash grenade, flare gun or lights within the environments like lamps and generators )
- Level design is genius, and there's shitloads of exploring in the game, I didn't feel this was a linear game at all. (Even tho, it is)
- The mood is one of the best you'll ever see in a horror video game, turn the lights off and start wandering in the woods, you'll see what I mean when you start having goosebumps!

Epic game, with really great game design!
I wont spoil anymore, I know it's been posted already, but if you haven't already make sure you watch the GT video review, i'd say It's pretty spot on:
-
What I really liked is that they very rarely resorted to cheap scares. There were a few, but it's a welcome relief from most horror games that seem to be trying to startle you every 20 seconds. The "horror" atmosphere feels a lot more like Silent Hill 2 with that long feeling of dread that rarely ever goes away (except with the roiling shadow fog at night that makes bushes briefly look like ax murderers instead of psycho rusted shadow scary fun time land in SH).
What I love about the Taken is just the absolute non-sense they spew whenever they talk.
QuoteThey give you a good idea about what that person would have been prior to the events of the game to reinforce the very "real world" grounding that Remedy is trying so hard to achieve.
Sometimes the lines just crack me up with how random they are: "THERE ARE THREE FATTY ACIDS THAT ARE GOOD FOR YOUR HEART!" *swings ax at Wake*.
QuoteThe final boss, while appropriate, was a bit of a let down in the difficulty department. I don't know what the deal is with modern games making easy final bosses these days. Feels a bit anti-climactic to fight your way to the final big bad boss, only to be able to sneeze at it and watch the credits roll.
Overall, I'm definitely glad with playing it on hard mode the first time through. It was a real challenge that only frustrated me enough to walk away only a few times, but really added to the atmosphere with how dangerous the enemies were. Never playing horror games on normal difficulty again after this.
For anyone who bought the Collector's Edition, did you see the level editor they made for this game? HOLY CRAP, WANT! I'll buy the PC version whenever/if it gets released as long as they give access to that beautiful piece of software.
