I'm interested. It has potential and doesn't appear to be an überscripted-michaelbay-shooter, which is a huge plus.

Deus Ex is the most overrated games I've ever played, so I'm not particularly excited about this one either. Will watch the video and see if it blows me away though!

Dude, no. I still find it crazy that no game has even come close to the depth, complexity and choices DE had and it came out in 2000!

I think I probably should have played it when it first came out, because I've tried playing it a good few times but haven't really enjoyed it. I don't know why, I wish I wasn't like this!!!!!!

Age doesn't diminish its accomplishments. In fact with today's modern trend of making games rubbish and simple, this game is like a golden shining reminder to us all what the games used to be like. Along with System shock 2 and Thief.

thief games are WAY better than deus ex though. i thought the original deus ex was a bit too long, but it had some really cool bits. and a few pretty bad bits.

Thief is awesome yeah, but it's two different genres / type of games too. Hard to compare the two.
This. However I'd rate them almost equally high, although Deus Ex is a bit more consistently good throughout for me, and its sci-fi

I loved Deus Ex, but I can't bring myself to play through it again. I feel like I've seen everything it has to offer. I played through it once as a jack of all trades, trying to explore every inch. Maybe there's something more there, I just can't get past Liberty Island when I reinstall it. Graphics are no big deal, they're functional. I just can't recapture that feeling of exploration now. I love what it was, the choices it offered, the story, the huge amount of background detail and environmental storytelling. Maybe Deus Ex 3 will offer some of that, but I think there's room for more stories told in the original Deus Ex world, prequels even, that could explore the same themes of a world falling apart, controlled from the background by powerful corporations and secret societies.

i still rate both as stealth games. sure you have some very different themes, but overall i took mostly the same approaches in both.

I blew everyone up with a rocketlauncher and then burnt their corpses with a flamethrower before shooting them with tranquilizer-darts in Deus Ex. You can't do that in any of the Thief games, so Deus Ex is clearly a better game. Is that even what you guys are discussing? I feel lost

-
actually i always found thief games short on ranged knockout. i could never get used to the gas bomb and much rather have blunt arrows. but yeah fire arrrows etc pretty much exploded on impact afair
-
When I was getting chased by a guard or two (which didn't happen often I'm well good) the trick is to throw a flash bomb then look away before it lands so you don't get blinded as well then knock the blighter's over the head. Then throw their unconscious bodies over a balcony or into a fire place.

Thief was retroactively made worse by Thief Gold, which added in the absolutely terrible Downwind Thieves Guild level. Deus Ex never suffered this offense.
