Google Chrome

    I've given it a good go (well, an evening), but in all honesty I'm finding it difficult to see any incentives to use it over Firefox or Opera.

    To me it just seems like a cut-down Firefox, which is really saying something considering how lean Firefox is. It's quite speedy, but I wouldn't say it's significantly faster than Firefox when tweaked a little, and it's definitely not faster than Opera from what I can tell.

    They've done a good job with the interface; it looks nice on Vista. It's not enough to hide the screaming lack of features though, compounded by its inability to support add-ons which give Firefox a pretty much unlimited scope of features.

    Perhaps I'm being overly critical here, but it seems like a lot of people are accepting a relatively mediocre browser just because it has the Google name on it. If this browser came from some random company and was exactly the same, I bet nobody would even give it the time of the day.

    Being completely honest, Firefox and Opera both seem like far superior browsers at this time. Give them a go if you haven't already. :wink:

    I look forward to seeing how Google take it forward, though. Their current features will end up in every other browser within months, so they're going to have to keep pushing forward the boundaries if they want to stay in the game.

    Uh, they plan to add support for plugins. This is still a beta. Also, all of it is open source, so I don't see why something of the like shouldn't become available.

    I've noticed a few more bugs while using it today. It's (obviously) unpolished.. But I think it looks really promising. As long as google keep their promises...

    well after testing a little and fighting with a few bugs I've decided to go back to Firefox for the time being. Chrome is a good browser but needs more polishing before it really makes sense to use it.

    Just installed, this is the first place to go. Seems fast... I don't know if I like how it looks too much though. Opera looks more professional. Internets is serious business, after all. I think even just a grayscaled version would be a big improvement. But anyways I'll report back when I have a more in depth opinion other than "durrrrr i dont like how it looks"

    Right, which is exactly why there's no reason to use it instead of Firefox or Opera. As it stands, both are much superior browsers. Just because it's Google doesn't mean we have to go all starry-eyed and use it in the hope it'll get better one day — I'll use it once it is better than its competitors.

    This Google loyalty thing is weird. As I said, if this came from anyone other than Google nobody would be even remotely impressed because it's not a particularly impressive browser.

    Oh I agree, and I'm sure I'll be going back to opera. But I'm definitely interested in kicking the virtual tires, particularly because it is Google. They've certainly proved that they have some brilliant ideas, so I'm trying it out to satisfy my curiosity about it.

    it just seems that all of everyone's points against it are that it lacks things...it was released two days ago. you need to consider that for the fact that its brand new it works amazingly well. i dont think anyone expected/expects it to take over or be used heavily due to the lack of features but once extensions are enabled and created and more versions are released i dont think its too unreasonable to expect the functionality to meet ie/ff/opera/whatever rather quickly. that is what i think is important. this browser seems more of an example and a somewhat creative way to put google's ideas out there for everyone to not only look at but to be able to simply take. so what if its not better than firefox at having plugins? some features are absolutely better and ff can now copy and paste them into their browser and that is by far the most important aspect of this.

    Someone has posted it already, but the license agreement saying Google own everything you upload is pretty sweet, but g-mail also had some dodgy lines and they've not done any evil dictator stuff there as far as I know. People are also harping on about a few supposed security holes.

    I'm not sure if I'll use it over Firefox, simply because I'm happy with what I've got, but the multi-threaded tabs sound like a nice addition.
