the integrated chips on the latest intel cores are awesome actually, can run WoW on medium in 1080p smooth as butter they burn through old games well too.

I know this cos my laptop power cable is lose, and when its out the pc reverts to intergrated chips rather than the gtx 460 beast ;P

I'm not sure if this is the case, but nvidia used to (still does?) pay developers to have early access to the games so that they could release working drivers much earlier than ATI. Every game that has the nvidia intro will almost always work like shit on ATI cards at release.

I mean it looks damn incredible, I will give you that.

But whats a real buzzkill to me is the 100% complete lack of any interaction with the environment. No physics? No ANYTHING? WTF

No physics + pre-baked lighting really makes for a bland immersion experience EYE EMM OHH

funny, i have a good pc, and i had no issues AT ALL with rage, enjoyed it thoroughly, no texture issues, no real problem with invisible walls (that's how the game works, you learn at the start you can't go everywhere, so you don't try, dealwithit.gif), i had no problem with AI - i enjoyed the behaviour thoroughly, the animations made the combat exciting, the game is pretty long by todays standards, it's fun, it's easily the most enthralling experience i have had since deus ex (i haven't completed DEHR but i completed RAGE, take from that what you will).

so for all the crying and whining and shoving fists up each others asses, i had a great time, and maybe people should calm down and realise carmack knows what he is talking about, and that rage is a good game, made for the market that would bring in the most sales.

Also.... Carmack just said what everyone already knows, Carmack just said what everyone has been thinking for the last couple years but never ever had the guts to admit, Carmack has the balls of steel to say what's going on with pretty much ALL the major AAA studios out there (including his) and he gets bashed for that... but of course he does, that's how society works isn't that right? I'm surprised it even comes as a surprise to anyone what he just said, everyone's concentrating on consoles now, the only developer I can think of that still makes AAA for PC is Blizzard, and even so Blizzars is it's own league.

what AAA has blizzard made lately? SC2? shit that was a port of SC1 with crazybump normal maps :S

diablo 3 will make it's way to consoles, WoW was made when PC gaming was still strong, Titan, is that gonna be PC exclusive?

i'm sure blizzard are well aware of the money to be made on consoles, but i guess they have so much money at this point they don't even care.

as for carmack, legend, says it how it is.

helder, check your mail, i shared somethign with you. also i won't spoil the game length for you, but i will say make sure you do every single sidequest.

lewl how can a sequel be a port of it's successor? Oh Rick, you make me laugh. SC2 was/is awesome and you know it.

Valve is still making AAA for PC, even if they're making them for the console as well, PC is clearly priority.

Still want this, I'm not paying $60 for it though. Does the game actually look like the screens you posted, HP?

Yes, the game looks great on this kind of vistas, the light baking looks great, notice the AO on the rocks, gives it a nice volume look, and far distance looks very sharp because of the aliasing from the lack of mipmapping we use in conventional games. On the downside, It may look blurry on some areas if you get closer, you notice low res difuse map, low res texels, noticable color banding, and compression artifacts.. Here's an example of how low res is looks if you get very close to stuff, but the env art itself is great, it's just a shame that you don't get pixel perfect detail but it's the price to pay for this tech.

Still... It's a beautiful game, and for how fast paced it is, being low res shouldn't really hurt much.

On the other hand one can argue how meaningful Carmack and id are on todays game industry. The last game id developed was Doom 3 (in 2004) and before that it was Quake 3 arena (in 1999), Rage is their first new ip since 1996 (when they released the first Quake). Even if we look at how meaningful their game engines are idTech 4 was only used in 8 games (Doom3, Doom3: RoE, Quake 4, Prey, ET:QW, Wolfenstein, Brink and Prey 2, so it was basically an in house engine) as opposed to the 20+ games in which idTech 3 was used, and the amount of games and engines that spawned from the Q1 and Q2 engines. To me this looks like a company (and by extent a man) that it's living in it's own shadow and that has hardly any relevance today.

This means that, first, I doubt that what Carmack said will have any impact in the industry, and second, it all just sounds like an excuse for a company that is out of touch, doesn't know what their clients want, and that released an average game hoping it would be the next big thing.

It we look at companies like Valve, Crytek, Blizzard, EA, Konami, Eidos, BioWare, Codemasters, and many others, it's true that they are all releasing their games on consoles, but they are also releasing some of the best PC Games of the last decade, and they are all polished, mostly bug free, and proper pc games. I'm a PC gamer, I don't own any of this gen consoles, and I played many great games and had great experiences in this last few years, the only differences are that now I'm more selective, I only buy games that I know are good, and I buy almost all of my games trough steam, all the rest feels the same as it felt 10 years ago.

Meaningful how, sales? Engine licensing? Who gives a shit. RAGE is probably the best shooter single player so far this year, how is that not fucking relevance?

Also lol they still made one of the best looking games since Doom 3.

Assassin's Creed 2 on PC got a 2.3 user review note when Ubi announced the "always online" DRM for it, whereas the reviews gave it a 9.1.

Whiners will whine, fanboys will be fanboys and self entitled brats will be self entitled brats. "we put you in this position, respect us" and all that.

An always online DRM is going to have a negative effect though, kind of obvious what the reactions were to be, no?

  • Furyo

That the reactions would be negative yeah, of course, but to use the user review score of a GAME to grade its DRM is childish at best.

Besides, to even think that Ubisoft would give a fuck was laughable.
